Pete Carroll has reached agreement with the Seahawks on a deal to be their next head coach, multiple NFL sources confirmed early Saturday morning.

Carroll was fully expected to be introduced by the Seahawks as early as Monday, assuming they comply with the Rooney Rule this weekend.

The hangup could be locating a candidate to interview that would put the Seahawks in compliance with the rule, which requires teams to interview a minority candidate for head-coaching hires.

On Friday, Jim Mora became the first Seahawks coach to be let go after one season.

Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier could agree to interview, but he is unwilling to do so if Carroll has been promised full control of the Seahawks -- and multiple sources say he has.

Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke told Frazier that Carroll definitely does not have Seattle's job.

I think Herm would be an outstanding college coach, particularly in CA. I've said numerous times that UCLA would be an ideal fit for him.

If he went to USC with the understanding that he'll get elite athletes and he needs to let them actually play and use their abilities rather than curtail their gifts to some stupid ****ing scheme, he'll be VERY successful.

The problem for Herman ****ing Edwards, at any level, is that in close games against big time competition, his conservative approah will cost his team games, and thus shots at national titles, or even conference titles.

That approach must totally go out the window, and this is what I was getting at with respect to the elite type of players he will get.

When he was with the Chiefs, I remember an interview he gave in which he talked about franchise QBs. He said (paraphrasing), "When you have a Peyton Manning, you give him the ball and tell him to go win the game."

If this was more than empty rhetoric, he'll do fine at USC, since he'll have Manning-type talent at the college ranks.

Lets say you are a blue chip QB prospect, and you have aspirations of being a star in the NFL. Why in god's name would you ever, ever play for Herman Edwards and potentially hinder your progress?

Now if you are a world-class punter, long snapper or running back, it's a different story.

he wouldn't sniff a bcs title game with saban, meyer, etc...

and the idea that he's recruit as well as Carrol just because of his clown personality is questionable as well...Carrol has had the best assistants in the country for years, when has Edwards ever shown an eye for quality assistants?

like i said, I'd take Oregon as long as Herm was coaching usc....

He's going to come into a kid's living room, talking about the league, all of his connections, players he's coached, playoff victories, and tell that kid that he understands what it takes for him to get there and succeed. It could be a pretty powerful presentation.

Also, Herm is a good guy, and parents will respond well to him.

Herm would be an outstanding recruiter. There's little question about that, IMO.

As long as he hired high-quality coordinators and allowed them to do their jobs, especially the OC, who would need to employ an aggressive philosophy with the type of talent he'd have at his disposal, Herm would be an outstanding hire for USC.

What high-quality coordinators has Herm ever surrounded himself with? Herm isn't going to get his NFL coaches to go to college and make half of what they would in the NFL.

He's also never had a coordinator with an aggressive approach.

What you are essentially saying is that he needs to be a completely different coach than he's show in the pros. Despite his infomerical like salesman persona, he's not getting the same recruits Pete did.
