I thought this movie was fantastic and my initial thoughts were "Well, I'm glad someone else decided to rent this".

Theroux was excellent IMO.

I think to pull this movie off to the level of expectation (as it's a period piece), the acting has to be pretty stellar. Obviously Danny McBride isn't stellar. I totally agree with your notion of "small doses."

I still thought it was really funny. And I LOVE Pineapple Express.
