Teicher: Bills never intended to hurt Berry last season

Coach: Bills never intended to hurt Berry last season
By ADAM TEICHER
The Kansas City Star
Buffalo coach Chan Gailey said the Bills didn’t intend to injure Chiefs safety Eric Berry in last year’s game between the teams.

Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson leveled Berry with a cut block at the knees on one of the first plays of last year’s game, which was the season opener. The result was a torn ACL that ended Berry’s season.

Berry later tweeted that he thought the Bills were out to get him, though he subsequently said he was only joking.

The Chiefs and Bills play one another again Sunday in Buffalo.

“I hate he feels that way because there was never any intention,’’ Gailey said Wednesday. “We never talked about it. It was never even discussed. Our guys were just hustling and trying to make blocks. It was unfortunate it happened. He’s a great player and I’m glad to see him back on the field.’’

Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said he believed Berry was over the incident.

“I know Eric has mentioned that last year, during the offseason, I think it was,’’ Crennel said. “He hasn’t mentioned anything this year other than trying to win the game.

“I don’t think Eric has difficulty going up against anybody. He enjoys the game. He wants to play the game and he wants to play it at a high level.’’

Meanwhile, outside linebacker Tamba Hali will return to practice Wednesday. He didn’t play in the Chiefs’ season-opening loss to Atlanta because he was serving a one-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.

“I hope I see the effort he gives on every play (and) what he brings to the table as far as pass rush goes,’’ Crennel said. “I hope he hasn’t forgotten anything and that he can step right in and move right along.

“The way he approaches the game and the way he plays down in and down out, that impacts the guys around him. They want to play up to the level he plays. When you get guys playing up to the level that he plays, then you can lift the team.’’

No, i don't expect anyone to take Stevie Johnson's knee out. I do hope they knock the holy **** outa him though.

When he crosses over the middle they should waste him even if they get a penalty.
YES YES YES! IN DA FACE!

Bills fans blew up my twitter last year when I suggested to Stevie that he dive head first into oncoming traffic since he liked diving at players knees.

I've been harrassing his twitter account all week and Bills fans are again blowing up my twitter.

And I thought Canadians were agreeable peace loving people.

VARSITY
IF there was one hit they need to remove from the game it is the damn cut blocks. Nah, but the injuries that were happening on kick returns from the 30 were a much bigger issue to address. This league.....

What?

First, nobody gives a shit what Teicher thinks, especially the team.

And two, if they NEED something like this to get up for the Bills, we're gonna get blown out because they're a bunch of pussies.

Why? I thought you approved of dirty hits and cheap shots? Oh, wait, that's only when it's perpetrated against players you don't like, and not on players on your team?

Well then you're a ****ing hypocrite, ain't ya?

You don't understand football then. Forget about the hit on Berry -- there's no real effective way to do alot of backside blocking in football without it. They have no choice but to allow it.

nah, this about the Chiefs being soft and nice

They have been that way for 2 gms,4 or 5 head coaches and dozens of players.

That mediocre Pollard wiped out Brady and the Pats didn't try to decapitate him. He also wiped out Gronk's ankle and I still don't expect the Pats to decapitate him.

Football isn't hockey. If you're obviously going after someone, then the fines and suspensions are going to be pretty serious.

I don't feel this way about a player often, but I wouldn't lose any sleep to see Stevie ****ing Johnson leave the field on a cart.

For Berry, it should be personal. For the team, they should remember the ass-flaming they took last year ,at home, and just explode the bills season to hell on Sunday.
