For sure...yea obviously I am all in on soccer but respect your opinion. It is not for everyone but its growth and trajectory are undeniable. It is cool to hear you say that being an LA guy. Even though the Galaxy probably haven't reached their potential and Chivas is the one MLS organization that straight up is not at all working.

SKC has (this is a common opinion not a homer take) the nicest soccer specific stadium in North America. Its just an incredible place.

Local ownership that cares...a team full of likeable players and everyone is obsessed with winning championships and making sure fans have a good time.

Sporting averages more fans per game than there are seats available. Crazy times.

I think it's awesome for the fans, KC and soccer.

Maybe someday, if time permits, I'll get into the sport.

And yet even with their winning and being the post season there just is no major buzz about the team around town. When the Chiefs or Royals are winning the city is just electric. With soccer, not so much. You hear and feel more depression because of the Chiefs than get from Sporting.

The newspaper coverage they get is "ok" the radio coverage they get is pretty good as is local TV coverage. A lot of the columnists in town dig the team but they know where their views come from.

It is all funny though. We are talking about a league that is 17 years old. The steps they have made in this town are incredible. They get exclusive coverage now and front page features on the sports page when it used to be they would have to win a trophy to get more of a box score.

Nobody is debating the place the Royals and Chiefs have in this town but the coverage they get isn't nothing. It is about what I would expect.

Everyone laughed when I brought it up (which I get) but a lot of small things like SKC players doing the Plaza lighting ceremony this year. That is a *very* Kansas City thing. This team is well embedded in the local culture.

Major media buzz? No. But the niche audiences eat that shit alive. Look up a soccer bar and watch a World Cup game there sometime -- doesn't matter what country. You will be surprised how packed those places get.

Of course I was exaggerating, but I really don't know too many soccer fans. I can count on one hand how many people I know of that actually follow SportingKC, like I do the Chiefs.

Sports Illustrated is actually doing a big story on Kansas City and soccer...the team and how much the community has embraced the sport as a whole. Should drop pretty soon.

LOVE IT. I think the sports media is embracing a winner in KC because they now it's sooo freakin rare. The fact that it's soccer and that KC has a long standing history of being a soccer town (since the 60s) is just icing on the cake. We are now on the international map as a destination to play in Livestrong. That can only mean good things for the future of KC because big named players who never heard of KC will consider coming here do to the stadium, fan base, owners, franchise...etc.

I'll go to a soccer match with you, Zach. But you have to guarantee it won't end up in a tie and I won't have to wear a scarf.

Haha, there has only been one 0-0 tie all year so you should be safe. Impossible to get tix for Wednesday how about you come to a playoff game sir.

Of course you realize I am putting you with the rowdies. The old men sort of stand at the back so maybe that will work out well. You can't be offended by bad language and nobody really sits.
