The Official 2022 FIFA World Cup Thread

YOUNG AMERICANS
The USMNT was by far the youngest team to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, garnering valuable experience going through the rigors of World Cup qualifying. Through 14 qualifiers, the USA Starting XI came in at an average of 23.82, almost two years younger than the next closest team, Ghana at 25.67. Together, the other 31 participating teams averaged a Starting XI age of 27.5 through qualifying, nearly four full years older than the U.S. Sources say this is one of the youngest, but most talented teams the U.S. has ever fielded. While they may not win the world cup this year, they may garner the experience needed to make a serious run on home soil in the year 2026 when the World Cup comes back to North America.

Well said. But so many Americans (I’m an American) give up on it becasue the thought of 0-0. I get that. We are Americans. We understand winners and losers. I totally get not being ok with a tie. That’s completely fair. But there’s wayyyyyy more to it than wins and losses and ties.

There’s points and games in hand and relegation and promotion and so on and so forth. NFL is my favorite sport…nothing else in the world is better, but **** soccer is so compelling given the implications I stated earlier. It’s really a lot of fun.

It’s super fun to follow and watch.

Even 0-0 games can be exciting. England has some do the best strikers in the world and our midfielders were just better athletes. Our speed on the edge was more than England could handle, but their strong center backs made up for that.

It’s like a fun chess match, but with humans. I think you’d like it, PB, if you watched it.

I always warch the semis and finals of a WC or euro

These shit games early are not bearable tho

Many people that don’t get or enjoy soccer fail to appreciate the skill involved. You watch it, and it looks kind of easy and pedestrian, and therefore boring. It’s not. Try going out and doing even basics yourself - shooting, shot placement, one touch passing, bringing a long pass down in front of you without it bouncing 15 yards away. It’s all VERY hard to do well. Every other sport requires hand-eye coordination, which is just more natural. Foot-eye coordination is a different beast.

I grew up playing football and now love both sports. But I didn’t appreciate the teamwork and fluid beauty of a well executed soccer game (regardless of score), until I played in adult leagues and tried it myself. Humbling.

I don’t think Dest or yedlin had a card.

Conspiracy theory: both matches GB made a baffling change for an MLS player. Everyone in the world knows we have better players either in the bench or on the pitch. But he dubs in an MLS player. Gsme 1: morris. The 2: moore.

I don’t disparage either player. Their number was called and they played. I disparage GB.

Totally fair. I got involved becasue I wake up at 5 am every morning. Premier league was on. I got to “know” the players and promotion relegation. Now Saturday mornings at 5 with my kids are some of the best times I have with my family. Before we have to leave for soccer or volleyball or softball or .

That’s where you lose people. Casual fans don’t give shit about skill. But if you lose a match and get sent down a level, that’s where American fans get involved.

**** yes the skill is off the charts. That comes later.

Dest had a yellow I just checked. But bring on yedlin. Both moore and Morris are guys that worked their way back onto the roster with hard work and I think Greg has a bias towards them. I just can't hear an argument that those are the best choices. I think he's making those choices with his heart and not his head
