Zack Snyder to direct next Superman film
http://heatvision.hollywoodreporter....medium=twitter
Nolan and Zack Snyder, definitely an interesting team. There are already rumors now that Zod is going to be the villain. I have to say I'm excited that it "appears" they aren't going to go totally out of left field and do something stupid and out of character for Superman. |

I just got back about an hour ago. It was certainly Zack Snyder's best movie, but that's like saying that Babe Laufenberg was the best third-string quarterback in the NFL. It was loud and explodey and added a bunch of stuff to the backstory and made the hero more tortured and conflicted and all-around Batmannish then he has traditionally been, but Henry Cavill did a good enough job with what he was given. It had too much Russell Crowe, and largely wasted Amy Adams (anyone could have played her) and, if possible, Kevin Costner. The standouts, acting-wise, were some lesser characters: Christopher 'SVU' Meloni as the representative presence of the US Military, and a German actress named Antje Traue commanded the screen more than anyone as General Zod's second in command. The most humorous thing in the movie was the overdone product placement, as the rest of the film takes itself so seriously, you'll want to put in Platoon or Excalibur for some relative levity. On the other hand, the score is tremendous - one of the best in recent memory - and the vision of Krypton was mesmerizing.
Overall, Rotten Tomatoes is giving it in the mid-50's, which is about right. |

That reviewer just doesn't get the movie. At all. Should probably go throw the '78 Superman in his betamax player. That sounds more his speed.

I think that's unfair. The reviewer seems open to an update on Superman. This movie just seemed so set on making a darker more somber Superman that it let the pendulum swing WAY too far the other way. People loved Iron Man. People loved the first two (and to a lesser extent the latest) Spider-Man movie. You can have serious themes and dark images without bogging down your hero, and with him the entire film. Dark Knight Rises of all movies had MUCH more whimsy and watchability than this film.

You can poke holes in arguments all day, I suppose, but regardless of his treatment of Superman as a character, Snyder turned in a sloppy, overdone film. He pulled his typical schtick where he throws in a lot of pretty shots and calls it art because that's what music video directors do. He finally dropped the slow mo, but he more than made up for it in lens flares. I mean... the guy just tells a bad story. There is no soul in his movies. All style, no substance. If he directs the next one, I might not even see it. I CERTAINLY will never see another non-Superman film he does.

I agree with pretty much everything kysirsoze said. The more time I have to reflect on it, the less I like it, and that's coming from someone with a HUGE blind spot for superhero flicks.

I agree with this. The more I think about it, the worse the movie gets in my mind. And sadly, it is still the best Superman movie ever made. DC really doesn't have a decent movie, does it?

just saw it...it was terrible
not an interesting human moment in the whole thing, no dialogue, no humor, no real reason to give a shit...then a solid hour of two guys destroying buildings it was pretty ****ing boring...Star Trek, whatever your complaints, is 100 times the entertainment this still birth was...

Did you all catch the Easter eggs that pointed toward a possible justice league movie?

While I agree DC sucks at developing their properties, I think this was the 4th best Superman movie.
