Part of the reason he struggled at times during the Finals though was because he Spurs basically dared him to shoot open jumpers from midrange...and he failed to connect. Kobe would have hit those. Dirk for sure.

He buried a lot of those mid-rangers when it counted the most.

Very impressive. If LeBron could consistently be that guy, wow. He wouldn't even need to rely on a missed Kawhi Leonard FT or a bailout from Ray Allen ever again!

and this is a league that is the first few generations of the 'Michael Jordan effect' Meaning every single one of these stars grew up idolizing and wanting to be Michael Jordan...and they played basketball every freaking free second of the day... People try and tell me 'the league isn't as talented anymore' which is total bullshit. The talent in the NBA right now is the best it has ever been and it is FAR BETTER than the talent during the Jordan era. People confuse talent and fundamentals. Yes, back in the Jordan era all of those players were fundamentally sound team players. The game has changed. I have news for you...LeBron is the most talented basketball player to ever lace up a pair of shoes and this is coming from a HUGE Michael Jordan mark. The Kobe fans, who seem to be the ones that hate LeBron the most, need to get over it. Kobe never was and never could have been what LeBron has been. He just didn't have the talent. That's not a bash, that's just a truth. |

Kevin Durant has only been in the league six years.
I'll take KD over 2008 LeBron.

KD is about as close to his ceiling as a 24 year old can be. He'll be in the league a long time and is a HOF player, but he'll never be LeBron.

Has the game changed or have the players begun to care more about looking good on SportCenter to focus on learning the fundamentals of the game?

Players are just more talented. Hell I played on a high school team with 4 guys who could dunk easy. We all had Jordan's moves down. Now take the true elite athletes who can do even more and its even better. Hootie is pretty spot on with his analysis.

90's Point guard was more like John Stockton (great passer and outstanding ballhandler. Very high bball IQ). Today it's Derrick Rose (slasher who looks to drive first, pass second) 90's Shooting Guard and Small Forwards were more like Joe Dumars and Pippen (outstanding defender and solid scorers). Today, they are more like Harden (pure scorers, average defenders... though this position is evolving to become better at defense) Power Forwards of yesterday are similar to those of today. Centers... 90's era was far better. Today, teams seem to value Centers who can drift to the outside, or they are one-dimensional post players (below average scorers, great defenders and rebounders). The 90's was a dominant era for Centers. |

LeBron, and then everyone else, including Durant. You could even make a case that at this point, that Carmelo is considered better than Durant. Durant showed how much he needs a number two when he lost Westbrook.
Now, the LeBron, Jordan comparison. I refuse to get into it. There are no winners, and honestly, you cant even compare their careers until LeBron is done and gone, but to be honest, if he hadn't taken 93, and 94 off to play baseball, there would of been no comparisons. He probably then would of ended up passing Kareem as the all time leading scorer, and had a chance to help the bulls to win 8 straight titles. Jordan as a competitor, is the best basketball player I have ever seen. I was born in '79. Lebron has more natural ability than anyone I have ever seen. He is as complete a player from size, skill, and athleticism, as I can remember, and when all is said and done, he will be on the Mt Rushmore of the NBA, and will go down as one of the top 5 players in NBA history.

Jordan could have won 9 straight titles had he never retired the first time and had Reinsdorf/Krause not cheaped out and let the band stay together one more year. A shortened year, at that.
