Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

Ugh.

Terribly conflicted.

IF, and that's a MONSTER if, he actually pans out, it's a steal.

Problem is, the deal didn't include Moss, Welker and the Patriots OL and coaching staff.

Just like anyone else, I'll back the guy 100%, even though I think he's Steve Bono v.2.

The only positives I can see right now is that we didn't give up the farm, and that Tyler ****ing Thigpen will absolutely not be the starter in 2009 for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Put me in the crowd that is BEGGING to trade down now, even though I know the odds are beyond slim.

Watch what happens when Thigpen outplays Cassell in practice, pre-season, and any time Cassell gets dinged. This should be great.

My guess is that Pioli will be looking for a burner and a poor man's Welker at wideout. If Johnson pulls the stick out of his ass, you could see a pretty quick improvement in the offense. Of course, they still need those receivers and a Kevin Faulk substitute, as well.

Cassel is an accurate passer. Thigpen is not.

Watch what happens when the Easter Bunny is named starting QB. That should be great.

The thing to remember about this deal, Mr. OnTheWarpath58, is that Pioli knows Cassel. He knows his strengths and weaknesses. He drafted him. He was there as he developed. He watched him gain his first NFL experience. If he honestly believes that he's our best option at quarterback based on his evaluation of Stafford and Sanchez, we have absolutely no reason to doubt his reasoning or decision. Plus, Pioli may not be completely out of the quarterback market yet.

Yes - the meatheads and necks that fell in love with Thigpen are going to try and make him the next Rich Gannon, cause..I mean....why let THAT go and stop jerking off over that guy........

A burner, we need.

TG = Welker in that he will always make the big catch when needed.

Charles = Faulk in that he is a good receiver out of the backfield and a nice change of pace back.

TG is not 'the Welker' in the system. Welker is a player who can dominate from the slot. TG is a top quality player, but he's not Welker. I mean no disrespect with that, by the way. Randy Moss isn't Wes Welker, either. It's just a different skill set.

As for Charles, he'll need to be able to pick up the blitz, every time, and he'll need to be able to run draws for 5+ yards at a clip.

You don't know the answer to this question because we DON"T KNOW how seventh rounders would fare if they had opportunities to start. WE DON'T KNOW.
Kurt Warner was an undrafted QB and went to two SB's.
