New Yankee Stadium possibly a disaster?

http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog...e=olney_buster

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4080195

http://www.accuweather.com/news-weat....asp?#extremes

Interesting articles on ESPN and other sites. Its early, but we may have an explanation for those high-scoring games in New York. Apparently the configuration of the seating may have inadvertantly created some sort of wind tunnel effect blowing to right field. Rival team scouts have sent the word out around baseball that Yankee Stadium now plays more like Coors Field.

That may be exciting for fans, but the Yankees may have screwed themselves with their $1.5 Billion-dollar ballpark. If you want to compete, you do NOT want a hitter's paradise. Good pitchers are rarer and harder to sign as free agents than hitters. You can find a lot of servicable hitters and a few superstar bats every year, but only the best teams have good pitching. If the new stadium plays short, the Yankees could have problems getting free agent pitchers to wear pinstripes. There are plenty of wealthy teams that play in good pitchers parks.

One would think someone would have thought about this BEFORE $1 billion + was spent on the place.

Sad thing is, the Royals wouldn't be able to hit there.

To be fair, the price tag shouldn't impress anybody. After all, this is New York. I would imagine more than half of the cost of the place went to greased palms and kickbacks.

Yeah, and I read that they had a last minute civic meeting so the taxpayers could allegedly come down to air grievances and when they got there all the seats were taken by city employees and construction workers hired by the contractors.

I'll believe in the Coors field effect if it keeps happening in July NYC air.

I really think you are overestimating the effect this will have on their free agency (possibly because you hate the Yankees and want it to have that effect which is understandable).

MLB players are mercenaries (for the most part), and the Yankees can spend the most money on any pitcher they want. In addition, they are also the most prestigious organization in baseball. If you think this will hurt their ability to grab a top pitcher, you are kidding yourself.
