Football Outsiders Ranks Matt Cassel 44th of 46 QBs

Giving him a ranking of 463 yards below replacement level.

QBs who finished behind Cassel: Stafford and Russell.

QBs who finished ahead of Cassel: Everyone else in the NFL who threw more than 100 passes.

On a positive note, he was 38/46 on a per play basis, narrowly edging out Josh Freeman.

On another positive note, Brodie Croyle would have finished 25 had he accumulated enough attempts.

Top 5 QBs (In order)

1. Brady
2. Manning
3. Rivers
4. Brees
5. Favre

Butt look at how much Null's receiver's dropped the ball. Null just needs better receivers. Give Null time. It's a process....

He better, otherwise there will be no Cassel year three, and if the team tanks, no Haley year three...

If he fails horribly, I will be pimping the "trade up at all costs, if needed, to take the best qb in the class which likely will be Locker" bandwagon, but I havent completely given up on Matt quite yet.

Ok. I'm a Cassel apologist. But obviously this list is ****ed if Stafford is ranked BEHIND him,Brodie Croyle is as high as #25, and Tom Brady is rated #1 THIS YEAR. But its funny how the Cassel haters will ignore all that if they find any article that bashes Cassel.

Yeah, when we made the trade, I was hoping for a Chris Redman level of production (#22 this year).

Great.

My team went from two wins to four, it's so cold and the snow so ****ing high I feel like I'm living the real life Ice Station ****ing Zebra movie and now... NOW we have a statistical analysis that reveals our QB is bottom of the barrel.

It's like being the real life Earl Hickey.

But when you actually throw him into the fire and have him use all that in an actual game he shits the bed. What should be a mobile and pocket savvy QB turns into one that lacks pocket awareness and repeatedly makes his O line look like shit (see the number of sacks he took in New England last year). Throws that appear easy for him in a relaxed setting appear next to impossible. Progressions that he can mentally do in his sleep in a meeting room he never gets to in a game.
I dunno. He looked like he had what it takes last year. Perhaps it has something to do with having better coaching, and having decent players around you. Nah, can't be that...

A good percentage of QB failures are great hardworking, intelligent guys but just don't have what it takes. Compare those type of guys to someone like Brett Favre, who practically won an MVP trophy before he even knew what a nickel defense was. Cassell's not a gamer and likely never will be.
So, what you're saying is, Cassel's no Brett Favre. Mmmkay.

Stats mean little to me in the big picture.

I base all my opinions on what I see with my own eyes.

Right now, I'd take Rogers over Romo, Schaub, and Favre, and depending on whether Manning shits his pants in the playoffs again and how Rogers performs in the playoffs himself, I might take him over Manning.

I and many others expected a below average year from him, just not this bad.

Im willing to bet that he makes a pronounced jump up in these rankings by this time next year after some of these gaping weaknesses are fixed and he progresses as qbs with his work ethic do.

I am willing to put any of these three on the line against any of the "horsemen" to say that Cassel cuts that number in half and ends up at least 22nd in these rankings next year or better. This puts me at a huge disadvantage because it is dependent on Pioli filling the holes that are there to give the kid a chance at achieving this, but I am basing my thoughts on the fact that I fully believe that Pioli looked at this as a evaluation year and that he will fill a couple needed holes to help his investment succeed. So call me a homer for this all you want or claim I am calling for a miracle, but I honestly think it is ralistic to expect that type of improvement or better. The kid is not a total loss.

I expected a below average to poor performance this year. That showed to be more than realistic, I just never thought it would have been this bad.

I realistically expect Pioli to fill at least half the holes we have on offense and for Weis to make a big difference in the progression of Mr Cassel.

Who is game?

/hopes this doesn't backfire, but one has to have hope
I'm going to say this again.

If Pioli looked at this year as an evaluation year, then he's an incompetent, useless boob.

He should have been able to make evaluations from game film and start filling holes going into the season.

Oh, I prefer the eye test as well. But this type of statistical analysis is also important to support what you are seeing.

Or in the case of many here, support what they aren't seeing.

And I was with you on the QB's until you included Peyton.

Listen, dick breath, I was on the Rogers bandwagon ling before mecca liked him.

I've said it consistently for years.

Favre and Manning are the most overrated QBs, along with Joe Namath, in NFL history.
