Who do Chiefs pick at 18? Who do you pick at 18?

Ok, folks, we're just under a month to go before the draft, and I thought it might be interesting to see who some of the CP Heavyweights think the Chiefs will draft at #18. For extra credit, please note who you'd select at #18.

Of course, we don't know who might be available at that slot, but I think most probably have a decent idea of who might be available. Anyway, this is your chance to go "on record" as per the 2015 draft.

Note that I stuck this in The Lounge as there doesn't seem to be too much other football stuff going right now. I would ask the mods to please move it if/as needed.

I'll start:

Chiefs: DT Malcom Brown
Meatloaf: WR Jaelen Strong

If I was actually the GM, no... he's not the kind of QB I covet.

I prefer big, physical pocket passers, preferably coming out of pro style systems.

Good organizations find fatties in the mid-late rounds and save their early picks for playmakers.

Lots of exceptions to that, though. Especially from most of the best teams in the NFL.

Lets start with the Champs.

A 1st and 2nd, (both tackles) then a 4th, 5th and UDFA as starters.

Packers? I mean, a good QB needs all 1st rounders to be successful, right?

Only one starter drafted before the FOURTH round.

I'm not going to spend all day doing this so you can point to Dallas and say "I told you so".

I wish someone had the time, but I'd bet anything that league wide, there are more late round starters playing OL than any other position group.

For those wanting a WR in round one, are there receivers you don't want amongst the crop? I would prefer KC go the quick twitch route at WR Vs. The big bodied WR type. Funchess is the perfect example of a guy I don't want.

Most teams that spent two 3rds, two 2nds, and the #1 overall pick on OL from 2010-2013 wouldn't be in the position we're in right now.

That doesn't mean we didn't invest high enough picks. It means we suck at drafting that position.

But at some point you can't keep burning picks on the same position group over and over again. You have to keep your options open. It's like when the Chiefs wasted a fart ton of high draft picks in the 2000s trying to find just ONE DT worth a measly ****. Wanna know why our drafts sucked so much? Because a position we had no clue how to judge talent for was our central goal every ****ing time we tried to draft somebody.

Seattle had high picks at LT and C (until they traded Unger)

Colts have a first round left tackle

Carolina had a first round center

Dallas has a stupid amount of first rounders on the line, but it seems to be working for them.

Denver has Clady

GB has Bulaga

Pittsburgh has Pouncey, Decastro, Adams and then Gilbert in the second

Bengals have Smith

Cardinals have Cooper and Iupati

Lots of first round picks on the OL of the playoff teams...many teams having multiple first rounders there.

1) I have seen Alex Smith play a lot better than he did last year. In his last year in SF, his YPA was over 8, his comp% was over 70 and he was on pace for 3500 yards and 26tds. That team had a better offensive line and it helped Alex function more effectively.

2) I want to see Jamaal Charles get a chance at a truly eye popping year that puts his name in the HOF talks more frequently. The guy is a complete beast and would only become more deadly if we put a good OL in front of him. There is no doubt that as we use Knile Davis more and more to extend Charles career, he and his style will also benefit from a big nasty OL in front of him.

3) there is no doubt Andy Reid will push to draft more quarterbacks and that we will draft Alex Smiths replacement in the next 3 drafts. NO DOUBT look at Dorsey's history in GB...or Reids in Philly. When that kid gets on the field, I want him to have a big boy line ready to protect him and give him the best chance he can get to succeed. If that means overpaying, so be it.

4) I believe in the ability of Erving. I think he can step right in and be a plus starter and can grow into being a pro bowler at any line position if he needed to and that his ability and versatility will be huge assets for us going forward.

Bingo.

We've spent more draft capital at that position group than any other team but Dallas - and what has that gotten either of us?

Not really a good way of looking at it though.

I know you're getting at "hasn't gotten them a superbowl" but with that thinking, neither has drafting qbs or playmakers early, and the Pats have done it with a 6th round qb etc.

In a salary capped league you have to adjust resources necessarily, which is why the "true fan" awesome offensive line dream is great, but not really possible by spending money
