i honestly think if he was the closer, that gives the cardinals a better chance. instead of pitching once every five games, he can pitch three times in that span.

At least until Wainwright's 100%, we really need him in the bullpen. Quite frankly, we're fucked with this bunch. Perhaps if Adam goes to the pen in the meantime they can find/call up another arm.

He threw 80 pitches in his last BP session. He's being conditioned to go long.

I have to agree. We have blown a lot of late games since Wainright went out so I don't think missing him as a starter is the weakness. The starters are doing fine without AW, and with Carp we basically replace him.

So getting AW in the closer role and getting Carp in the rotation we are about 10 games better IMO.

If we had a closer I would agree but with Carp coming back we have a bigger need for a closer.

What would you rather have a 5th pitcher or a lights out closer? The only other option I would explore is Looper as the closer and AW taking his place in the rotation.

One way or another, one of the starters becomes the closer and Looper and Wainright are the only experienced options.

Or, he could be like JJ Putz last year, who was unhittable, and didn't pitch for almost two weeks because of the situations dictated.

Wainwright shortens the game. Every time he pitches and Pineiro doesn't, you need to get 4-5 fewer outs. That is huge.

Long could be three innings every other day, since none of our starters can get past the 6th and all our other relievers are fucking losers.

I would rather have the #1/#2 starter back in the rotation where he belongs.
