Goold's Mo interview up on STL Today.
Sounds like Mo is still counting on FA's taking less money just for the privlidge of playing in STL? The game is changing and are we going to change with it? Thats a question you have to ponder? Really?? Mo, either you change to the new baseball reality or be left behind. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A team that says it rarely wins a bidding war, might have to. “Historically, we haven’t,” Mozeliak said. “That’s something that we may have to recalibrate ourselves and rethink it. We’ve had a very disciplined process to date and it has worked. I think we all recognize that sometimes you have to change. Sometimes you have to do things that get you out of the comfort zone. I’m not suggesting that that’s exactly what we’ll do. But my point is think back over the last few years and the model was definitely working. But the game is changing a bit. Are we going to change with it? It’s certainly something that we understand that we have to be cognizant of — and willing to accept.”

There is no figuring it out with him. Face it, he isn't a talented hitter at all.

Not piss away 200 xmillion on a .270 hitter, with absolutely no power that can't drive in runs. It takes a special kind of sad for a guy to hit middle order all year and drive in 60. WAR means Jack and shit if that clown is ranked so high.

It's not pathetic for a mid order guy to only drive in 60? But hey he was a BEAST with nobody on and two out!!!

Wei Yin Chen and Justin Upton.
I'm done letting a #2 hitter and corner OFer hold the organization hostage.

I can think of one game where Heyward's glove won the game for you guys. I was there in person to see that one.

RBI isn't a great stat, but it's a stat at least worth looking at.
This isn't a case where Heyward drove in 80, which is disappointing but could be chalked up to bad luck. The guy managed 600+ plate appearances and got 60 RBI. And while RBI is team dependent, performance with RISP isn't. Heyward managed a whopping .708 OPS and .264 BA to go with an ISO of .085. That's not a typo - the guy managed all of 7 XBH with runners in scoring position last season. He simply doesn't drive the ball at all when he has an opportunity to knock runners in. He doubles down on that awful 'contact' stroke of his and mostly just turns himself into a groundball machine. PGM is wrong in that Heyward most definitely is a talented hitter, but that talent's gonna do nothing but get someone fired because he's not a productive hitter. Heyward's a great overall player. He's not a star and he's not going to be. If the Cubs are going to bid him up to the stratosphere, I guess they can have him. Then they'll probably trade Soler and Schwarber to the Marlins for Fernandez and we'll proceed to get our asses kicked, but such is the way of it. The Cubs have simply done a better job of building their team over the last 5 years than the Cardinals have and to be honest, it's not particularly close.
