Any thoughts on the potential ice storm this weekend?

This site seems to predict chaos and 2 inches of ice but I hope it's wrong.

https://www.facebook.com/WxSynopsis/...type=3&theater

Hope it's just a few flurries.

Quote:
I am very concerned when looking at the 12z EURO run from earlier today. Honestly I never seen max values being outputted on the EURO model before for Ice, so this is new to me. To say im concerned is an understatement. For anyone who understands icestorms and just how much can cause widespread impacts, all it takes is just .25 for power outages. If theres .50-.75 you are dealing with prolonged impacts, trees downed and extensive damage to power lines. Between 1.00-1.50 entire power grids become damaged. Widespread damage to trees. Roads impassable for days if not weeks. 1.50-2.00 power grids not only shut down but substations become damaged from the weight of ice accumulations building on transformers and pylons. Hard to imagine ice accumulating over 2inches. Once you get into these extreme values this is what you call a "catastrophic ice storm". Power grids can become damaged and take months to be fully repaired. So there is big time worries for central Oklahoma up to Ohio. We will be monitoring this potential and update when warranted. Anything can change, and if there is one forecast that I hope to god does not verify, this is the one.

At this moment, it's pretty dry around here where I am at (Near KCI). All that stuff is SW of Kansas City (its in the Wichita area at the moment).

Supposed to hit tonight, so they say. We'll see.

Looks like moving the start time isn't going to be beneficial after all

SundayFreezing rain before 3pm, then rain likely between 3pm and 5pm, then freezing rain likely after 5pm. High near 33. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.3 of an inch possible.

Sunday Night Rain or freezing rain likely before 8pm, then rain. Low around 33. East wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected.

It has much more to do with getting the roads cleaned up BEFORE the game than what happens DURING the game. Plus, it says right there that no ice accumulation is expected in the evening.

That is what I was thinking. It seems to be moving really slow.

At what point can they postpone the game again until Monday

Wont be any need to move it. Pretreat the roads and there wont be any issues tomorrow...

Not really going to be cold enough to cause major road issues.

I always get a kick out of people who rant like crazy on social media about people who leave their dogs out in the 25 degree cold. It's a direct decedent of wolves, coyotes, and foxes. Why don't they mention the horror they feel when they see a coyote roaming about in snow covered field? Anatomically they are virtually the same.

They are fine. They always have been. They are built for the cold. Up to you if your dog is an indoor or outdoor dog. Either way, they will be fine. But most people, especially city dwellers, don't see it that way.

I've always lived in a city, but my step mother's side of the family is all rural and farmers. Most of them have dogs, and they kept them outdoors almost all the time. They would run them everyday. Feed them, let them loose to play etc. The dogs were fine. I was stunned when I got to be a teenager and realized that this was definitely more rare than keeping them inside.

Honestly, I don't understand why people keep medium to large size dogs in a house in the first place. I think it's very strange. I like dogs, but they stink up everything they lay on and will destroy your house. I get having a hunting dog and/or to run around on the farm, but no clue why someone would want a full grown lab, great dane or something laying in their bed or couch slobbering on everything making everything amuck. But dogs outside? They are awesome to play with, run around with, play fetch, hunt with, swim with, etc. But to each their own.

The cold feels like complete shit to us because we have skin instead of a fur coat (duh), but some people need to be reminded that animals fare just fine outside. All the time if need to be.
