The "Official" Cardinals Discussion Thread.

Figured that if we had one thread to discuss Cardinals "stuff" it would be easier to find. What do you think? Good idea?

If Perez can get his slider going like last night and then we can move Wainright into a starting spot we may just have something this year....

Adam Wainwright will begin his rehab assignment a day earlier than originally planned to prepare for the possibility he'll return to the majors as the Cardinals' closer.

Wainwright will start Friday night for the Cardinals' Class AAA affiliate in lMemphis, and his rehab will be tailored for a relief pitcher — lower pitch counts, shorter and more frequent appearances. The decision to have Wainwright get ready to be a reliever dovetails with the promotion of rookie Chris Perez and a meeting Cardinals brass held Wednesday to address their ninth-inning emergency

Wainwright had been set to start Saturday's game for Memphis before his schedule changed.

"We moved him up since he's probably going to come back as a reliever," general manager John Mozeliak said. "It's not set. There's a chance before he comes back that we have a solution and it's not a need. Then he'll come back as a starter. We want to be prepared. Right now, everything is on the table."

As long as he comes back healthy, any role he is put into will be a big boost to the club.

Nope. Paletta said his eye socket was like a crushed eggshell and it was the worst eye injury he's ever seen.

A bit deceiving too... we're not paying Lopez that $6.5, we're paying him league minimum. Ankiel is also up for arbitration too, so his salary will go up. That's just a few examples.

98 MPH fastball and a nasty slider will get you compared to Sutter regardless if Tony wants the comparisons or not.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Cardinals considered sending Perez, 23, to lower levels than Class AAA just to work on his slider but opted to keep him one rung below the majors. He was told to throw one slider for every fastball, and he did until "the feel came back," Perez said. He struck out 15 in seven innings in his recent stint at Memphis

He called the assignment "a chance to clear my head. I had confidence because of what I did (earlier this season in the majors). ... I figured out the slider and was able to keep my feel for it."
