Describe a scenario where you would take up arms against the U.S. government.

What would it take for you to start up a rebellion group? What events would have to happen for you to think that you should risk your life to change how America is governed? Please be as specific as possible; I don't want to hear, "Some crazy despot is elected president." I want to hear, "The President disbands Congress at gunpoint" or "The President orders an invasion of Canada" or "The president has made it illegal for me to own slaves" or "The government is killing everyone who wears glasses and is sending the rest to the countryside" or some such thing.

I'm not sure how old each of you are, but I think anyone in their late 40s will do okay. I'm 43, and I hear that I'm going to be one of the first to get mildly screwed over, and then the people younger than me will get worked over pretty good.

Do you mean literally "take up arms?" I could see a nasty political confrontation but arms may be a little out of reason. I could not see intellegent people confronting our Army with a six shooter or deer rifle.

I am, (its actually Pink)

I married a US Citizen (4 years ago), and my child (2 years old) is a US Citizen as well...

I almost recieved my citizenship about 2 years ago, but I missed my appointment date ( I was out of the country - back home in Argentina) and I never re - scheduled.

Now, I am not so sure I want to become one, just because of the fear there might be a draft in the near future (I am only 24 and out of college) and I would have to go to war because of a loan I signed for to finish College.

I would be taking my family to Argentina at that point.

I was going to be drafted in Argentina, but then they made it voluntary instead of obligatory. My Dad, my uncles were all drafted by the military during the dictatorship times (Dirty War), when the police and military were corrupt... Those were scary times...

So, you don't mind taking the benefits of this nation, and will gladly take whatever you can from it, including our tax dollars, but will head for the hills if you ever have to do something for America, is that correct?

I'm sorry if that seems like I am being a jerk, but the way you wrote it, I don't really know how else to take the tone.

Please don't buy into the libby's scare tactics regarding a draft, you aren't going anywhere unless you join the military, then you should expect to go somewhere and stand fast.

Yeah. I figure that they'll just keep upping the age requirement. My parents can get SS as early as 62, but I think my eligibility age is 70. Yours will probably end up being 80 unless we can convince Donger to have about 50 million more children.

I doubt that there'll be a draft anytime soon unless we get into a tussle with Iran, and I doubt that'll happen.

An acquaintance of mine in grad school was Argentinian, and he got drafted for the Falklands War. He wasn't looking forward to fighting the British, but he ended up guarding some mountain outpost near Chile, so he never saw any action. I always wondered if that was dumb luck, or if his family knew enough people for him to do a Bush or Clinton.

Nah, thats not how I see it,

I was not born in the US, this is really not my country,

Do i benefit from school, work and such, but I pay taxes too... I cant vote, I get harrased at airports pre 9/11 and after... whatever

If I had to do something for America I would do it, I am American, (South), but if the US wants to go to war vs Syria/Iran/ Russia/N Korea and China...

I will go back home and stay Neutral...

Heh. I never thought about that vis a vis the Monroe Doctrine.

Of course the US helped the UK during the Falklands war. You say that like it's a surprise. The UK is our closest ally and they most likely always will be.

The Monroe doctrine had nothing to do with this war. In addition the Monroe doctrine is an outdated philosophy that is not used today.
