As part of the fun, Hairston will represent Mexico. “It's so funny to see people's reactions when they find out,” he said.

Hairston doesn't speak Spanish, but his mother, Esperanza, was born in Mexico and Hairston has several relatives in Hermosillo. “I love the culture and I am proud to represent Mexico,” he said.

After exhibitions in Tucson, Ariz., and Hermosillo, the Mexican team will play its first WBC game in Mexico City. “It's going to be electric,” he said.

It sure is something, alright.
