Views from around the Sports Nation on KU getting Orange Bowl over MU.

Mike and Mike in the morning - "Both are saying that uk's selection over Mizzou going to the Orange Bowl is purely a joke.

Associated Press - "Never mind that both of Missouri's losses were to Oklahoma, that the Tigers were two slots ahead of Kansas in the final BCS standings and beat the Jayhawks head-to-head on Nov. 24 to doom Kansas' national-title hopes."

Lee Corso - "Did Missouri beat Kansas? Did they beat Illinois? Where are they going?...Something's wrong with the system."

Kirk Herbstreit - "The Orange Bowl committee should be asked a question. Why Kansas over Missouri? They beat Kansas, were 11-1 in their last game and lost to what many say is the best team in the country."

Ivan Maisel - "The Orange Bowl chose Kansas and its 11-1 record over 11-2 Missouri despite the Tigers' defeat of the Jayhawks a week ago. Kansas, like Ohio State, benefited by not playing on Saturday, when Missouri lost to Oklahoma, 38-17."

Rivals.com poll - "The Tigers were left out of the BCS despite beating Kansas head-to-head for the Big 12 North title. Kansas, meanwhile, is going to the Orange Bowl." They're currently leading by a huge margin. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/copoll.asp?poll=69

Blair Kerkhoff - "In other words, Missouri would have profited from declining a spot in the Big 12 title game. Kansas, like Ohio State, gained by not extending its season, and that’s a serious flaw in the process. Risks should be rewarded, not penalized."

MY Fav:

"You can put the Orange Bowl with Kansas on Comedy Central, because it is a joke for them to be there." -- Pat Forde on ESPN this morning

It's funny, because if the tables were turned, the exact same thing would be happening... just substitute 'quite whining MUron' with 'quit whining Arrogant Asshole Gayhawk'. Those complaining the loudest about how MU got screwed would be the ones complaining the loudest about how Kansas won't shutup about getting screwed. And a few Mizzou fans would talk about how Kansas had their chance as #1, just like a few Kansas fans are now.

Thats my whole point. Who knows if Kansas is better than Texas A&M? The whole thing is a cr**shoot this year all across the country. Basing whether a team is better than another off one game is reeruned especially in any game that ended in a difference of one possession.

Everyone knows Mizzou is a superior team to Kansas, they proved it on the field. The rest of this doesn't even matter. It's not like KU is getting more money. It's all split evenly between every team in the conference.
I'm not a bowl economics expert, but I don't think it's evenly.. unless it's different for the BCS. I looked up the figures for the Cotton and Orange. The Cotton has a $3 million payout and the Orange is $18. I couldn't find the split for the Orange, but the Cotton was $1 million to the winner and $2 million split amongst the rest of the conference.

So, if it's the same split, Kansas would get $6 million from the Orange, and the other 11 teams would get about $1 each.

Yep... I don't think anyone is going to say that Stanford or App State are better than USC or Michigan.

I've read 'do you have a short memory, Mizzou beat Kansas' many times here, yet after all the shocking upsets this year, people take a look at VTech/Kansas (or any other bowl for that matter) and know VTech is going to win 84-0.

Man....all this whining from both sides is starting to sound like the maternity ward at the local hospital.

Fact #1- KU finished 11-1 and got picked to go to the Orange Bowl. Nothing we can do can change that so we need to get over it. To bitch at KU fans is worthless and full of needless venom. If they don't deserve to be there it will be shown by their play on the field. If they do then we need to congratulate them and move on.

Fact #2- We have scoreboard in every fashion....Head-to-head, Ranking in all Polls...and wins over you the last 2 years. Legitimize all you want, but the fact is we are better than you in football this year.

The rest of everything else spewed here is just childish drivel fueled by an attempt to see who can piss higher up the tree.

Mr. Orange, and his wingman, Mr. Cotton needed dates for the ball. They met up with two good looking midwestern girls, a red head in a blue dress and a blonde in a black dress. Mr. Orange got to pick first and couldn't quite decide. The girls both looked great, the blonde might have had a little bigger bosom. For reasons unknown to us...perhaps the blonde had a bit of spinach in her teeth or had a case of halitosis, he decided the red head had a better personality and asked her to be his date. Mr. Cotton asked the blonde. The girls both accepted. The blonde then proceeded to whine and bitch about the red head. Mr. Cotton rolled his eyes.

Exactly. The only thing KU can say is to potential recruits that we played in a BCS Bowl last year. I mean, how much is that really worth anyway?

In many cases I would agree that it's home team bias at work. But in this case, there are measurables that are all in Missouri's favor. And it's not like the loss was early in the season, it was a week and a day previous to when the decision was made.

I wonder who the last team was left out of the BCS was who by the measurables qualified and had beaten two of the three BCS teams that they played?

If there is any rational bone in any of our bodies, if the teams were not our own and we were just choosing between A and B for bowl C, I think all of us would choose A given the available information. I think that's what you see from the commentators' comments listed in this thread.

I really don’t know why some MU fans are gripping and some KU fans are crowing.

The fact of the matter is KU is playing in a dog of a game that no one will be watching on Jan 3rd, while MU is playing in a much better match up on New Years day.

After KU gives all the money back to buy empty seats, MU comes out ahead on the money side.

And to top it off MU is favored while KU is the dog in its game.

Not much if you lose.....a whole lot if you win.

It's kinda one of those things....either you won real big or you lose real big.
