Matt Cassel on 810 WHB tomorrow

Matt Cassel will be on BTL tomorrow on 810 WHB around 3:30. According to KK, he will open up the phone lines and Cassel will answer questions from some of the listners. Sounds cool, can't wait!

EDIT: KK said at the beginning of the show that he may not be on! He's obviously not on so I guess they were not able to get him.

Dumbest comment in the history of CP.

Yeah, the guy who WON THE GAME is a "winner, gritty and clutch" in THAT particular situation. What does Roethlisberger have to do with it anyway? You asked what more Cassel could have done. I pointed out several things he could have done to win that game.

Yet you're making excuses for the guy that LOST.

Point proven about this fanbase.

Again, this isn't about Cassel. It's about people like you that are content with losing and will go to great lengths to make excuses for those losses.

This is about a fanbase that is OK with losing as long as some flashy numbers are put up.

It's been that way since DV was here.

Forgive me for feeling that winning is the only thing that matters.
Why the hell would, or should, Chiefs fans care about the outcome of that game? What should matter to Chiefs fans is that Cassel had a hell of a second half and showed what he's capable of doing. The fact that the Patriots lost in overtime without Cassel ever having the chance to get the ball is besides the point.

For crying out loud, all you doom-n-gloom people have become self-parodies. If this team were to go 16-0 and then win the Super Bowl, you'd be bitching that they gave up a last minute field goal to cut the winning score to 56-10.

Same shit, different fan base. Every team has a group of so-called fans who are far happier complaining about their team than they ever could be if the team were to win the title.

Well, I don't have the time or energy to get into this argument with you since it will surely just turn into you calling me dumb several times, and I don't really care enough to debate this.

I'm sure you know that it is ridiculous to pick apart a guy who threw for 400 yards and just brought his team back on the last play of a game to tie it only to lose a coinflip and never see the ball in overtime. You're a smart guy, I'm sure you can see this.

This isn't doom-and-gloom, you idiot.

For the millionth time, this isn't about Cassel, it's not about the team.

You probably should read and comprehend more before spouting off about shit you know nothing about - I'm one of the few people here that have said on several occasions that I don't care if we won games 3-0, 14-10 or 55-51.

All I care about is WINNING. One point more than the other team. Don't care if it's pretty, don't care if it's ugly. I've never complained about a win, and I'm not going to start now.

So kindly, **** off.

Well, first of all, I agree that Big Ben has nothing to do with this argument.

A few reasons why I don't agree with you. The first is that the Pats ultimately lost because of a reeruned NFL rule that doesn't allow both offenses to touch the ball. But because the rule is what it is, Cassel had only one shot to win the game. And he succeeded. That, therefore, makes him a hero. It's not like he had a chance in OT and muffed it. I agree that it's not the same as winning the game, but isn't heroics about stepping up at just the right moment? Cassel did that. On a side note, if a QB scores a game-winning TD with 45 second left in the game and the defense blows the lead in that short time, does it make it any less heroic? It shouldn't. Unless you expect that he can play defense too.

But the other reason I don't agree with your argument is that you are placing equal blame on everybody. Blaming a team for only scoring 13 points in one half is like yelling at your kid for only getting a 95 on his exam. Winning is a team concept. And very often times, a player does everything within their power to win and simply doesn't. That's the case here. Cassel had a super performance and he came through when he needed to. There's NOTHING he can do when a defense, that he doesn't play on, gives up 34 points.

I guess I don't understand the double standard that a QB can score only 3 points in an entire game and be dubbed a hero if he scores a TD with 10 seconds to go (nevermind that his defense carried his ass the entire game), but a QB who puts up 31 points AND scores a key TD in his last possession is not. I know winning is most important, but you have to be realistic about how much a guy can do to win a game. I think an effort like Cassel's where he carries the team on his back is a lot more heroic than a win in which a QB was carried by his defense all game long.

If it's not about Cassel or the team, then people being happy with Cassel and a great comeback performance, even if it fell short, shouldn't bother you, because that's about potential, and how that potential might help the Chiefs moving forward. Yet, somehow, you think it's an excuse to bitch at people for liking his performance.

Truly genius of you.

Potential isn't a valid argument at Chiefs Planet. Never has been, never will be.*

*Unless we're discussing Matt Cassel of course. Who incidentally has potential you can literally REACH OUT AND TOUCH!

Hold on.

People are so quick to look at the END of a game for answers, but ignore the beginning.

I was asked what more Cassel could have done to win that game, and I pointed out SEVERAL things, namely, not go 10-20 and stall twice inside the 30 and once inside the 15.

That's fact. Sorry you don't like it. Better 1st half play wouldn't necessitate a miracle effort in the 2nd just to get to OT.

And regarding the double standard, I didn't say that, Doomy brought that scenario to the conversation, which was ridiculous - comparing a 2-time SB Champion to a guy that has 11 career starts is comedy gold.

Again, others have made this about Cassel. I'm only saying that this fanbase has a habit of making excuses for average QB's when they fail. Seeing as how Cassel has yet to take a snap in a Chiefs uniform, I don't see where he fits in this equation. I simply made a comment about a picture that epitomizes the thinking of this fanbase - that the QB never seems to be held accountable, and that there's always an excuse that absolves him from blame.

Uhhhh............
Trent Green couldn't throw the ball and catch it to.
I believe Green did get screwed of at least one superbowl ring in his time here.
And I believe that TG with the rest of our WR's were to blame for it when it counted.

My God, I can see why many of the solid football posters around here have left.

Here's a guy who's been here a whopping FOUR months acting as if this is breaking news.

Here's a tip for you - we've all had this discussion before - well before you came along. People made excuses for Green, Huard and Thigpen when they lost as well.

It has nothing to do with Cassel, his potential, nor his performance in said game.

Now run along.

The guy threw for 400 yards and brought his team back to tie up the game on that play. It's only "not a valid argument" if you're ignoring reality. Sadly, many of those here who claim that it's the 'true fans' who are ignoring reality are the ones with their heads stuck up their asses.

OTW has been one of them ever since I started reading this site.
