Peyton Manning to visit Denver TONIGHT to meet with Donks

Peyton Manning will be in Denver tonight visiting with the Broncos, according to two NFL sources.

This is getting serious, folks.

Manning, arguably the most decorated free agent in NFL history, has the Broncos on his short list. The long-time Indianapolis Colts quarterback was released earlier this week amid concerns about his neck, a $26 million bonus payment and the team's opportunity to select highly prized quarterback Andrew Luck with the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft.

Manning, 36, has been cleared to throw by his neck specialist, Dr. Robert Watkins. One NFL source said Manning will also visit the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins after visiting with the Broncos. A source said Manning would like to make a decision by Tuesday, the first day of free agency.

The Broncos' top brass of John Elway, coach John Fox and general manager Brian Xanders, are currently in Stillwater, Okla., watching the Oklahoma State Pro Day workout that features quarterback Brandon Weeden.

The Broncos have the No. 25 pick in the draft, plus the 25th selection in the second round. Weeden, who turns 29 in October, is considered the second-best passer to Luck in the draft and has been projected to go between the Broncos' top two picks.

Manning will turn 36 in two weeks.

It's pretty clear he's going to get paid handsomely. It's pretty clear it's not just about money anyway. It's pretty clear Peyton has a quick timeline which means he's not going to want to waste time.

I would hope Miami isn't in the hunt. That city doesn't deserve a guy like Peyton. But if he's on the list, I find it hard to believe they're not very much in it.

Manning is going to be "impressed" with everyone he visits, he's just that kind of guy. But he's also very good at playing the PR game. He's not completely innocent. Look at how he fired one back at Irsay by having his own doctors "clear" him, then turn it into a huge deal on ESPN.

TT wouldn't like it I'm sure, but mentally he's a different breed and would still be a team guy. This is one of the rare moments when most QBs in the league would have a hard argument about taking a backseat.

I doubt it would be a big issue - esp from the fan base. It's all about winning and if they do this and win, there's your cure. Especially, if FA goes as it would be expected to go.

Same thing could happen here. He goes for some more visits, tells Condon which one is the right fit, and they work out a contract. I'm sure right now the parameters of a deal are being discussed with any party that Manning has a mutual interest in. At the end of the day though, he'll tell Condon who to get it done with...

I don't think it'd be a big issue initially, but say Peyton comes in and looks shaky for the first 3-4 games. I can't imagine the Tebow worshipers not coming out and calling for him to start again.

The other issue is that Tebow isn't compatible at all with a Manning-style offense. It'd be really tough for the team to suddenly shift to Tebow's style if Manning were to go down.

But who knows how any of this is going to work out?
