Alternate Reality Game 1: Chiefs
The original post is below in blue, but let's summarize it here based on the past few years.
1. If you're a new player, start with the current Chiefs roster. If you've been playing for a while you'll have your own evolved roster. 2. You can add any free agent that the Chiefs add. 3. You lose any free agent that the Chiefs lose, but only if they were on the Chiefs' roster when you began playing. 4. You can accept or reject any trade the Chiefs make as long as any Chiefs player involved is currently on your roster. 5. You do not get players that the Chiefs draft. You draft your own players, using the same draft picks that the Chiefs have. 6. You can trade down ONE time before the draft or after the draft. If you trade down before the draft, you get up to full value for your pick according to this chart: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-V...-Rich-Hill.asp. (Note: this chart was updated in 2022.) If you trade down after the draft, the value of the picks you trade must be discounted by at least 25 percent. Any trade down must involve only the picks of one NFL team, and you cannot receive more than two picks more than you give up. (In other words, if you trade away one draft pick you cannot pick up more than three in return.) The other team's picks also must be picks that they held prior to the opening of the draft. See the examples at the bottom of the post. 6. You can trade up ONE time before the draft or after the draft. If you trade up before the draft, you get up to full value for your pick according to this chart: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-V...-Rich-Hill.asp. (Note: this chart was updated in 2022.). If you trade up after the draft, the value of the picks you trade must be discounted by at least 15 percent. Any trade up must involve only the picks of one NFL team. The other team's picks also must be picks that they held prior to the opening of the draft. 7. By the beginning of the season, you must reduce your total roster to include only 53 players. Added in 2025: 8. We can sign three non-Chiefs UDFAs as part of our draft. (Update this year's draft with your picks.) 9. On final cutdown, we can put three rookies or players on IR onto a "reserve" list. Original post: You can ignore this now.
Spoiler!
Added Rules and Reminders: 1. Remember that you can draft undrafted rookies, so you don't have to select only guys who were drafted. 2. Anyone can change their rookie draft selections at any time, UNTIL we reach ten days before training camp. At that point, all picks will be locked in. 3. Each team can do ONE trade of draft picks if they like, using this chart:http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...t-trade-chart/. However, if you're trading up, you have to pay 15 percent more than the stated value of the picks you're obtaining. If you're trading down, your pick's value will be discounted by 25 percent. For example, if you want to trade up from the 20th pick in the 1st to the 10th pick, you can see from the chart that the 20th pick is worth 259 points. The 10th pick is normally 369 points, but by paying 15 percent more, it will cost you 1.15*369, or 424 points. So you would need to come up with another 165 points to make the deal (424-259) For example, if you want to trade down from the 20th pick in the 1st and pick up the 10th pick in the 2nd, your 20th pick would normally be worth 259 points, but in this game it will be worth 25 percent less, or 194 points. The 10th pick in the 2nd is worth 142 points, so you can get 52 points back from the other team. (Remember that you cannot pick up more than two extra picks in the trade, so consider your math carefully.) You can do only ONE draft-pick trade up and ONE draft-pick trade down, and in each case you can only trade with one other team for their own picks. (In other words, you couldn't take the 52 points in the above example from a third team.) Last edited by Rain Man; 04-28-2025 at 04:41 PM.. |

TE is a great question. I expected to have deep thoughts about one early, but just didn't like how the board fell. Loveland and Warren were out of striking distance, I don't like the implications of Taylor to the Jets that I would be inheriting, and Arroyo didnt fall enough (I absolutely would have taken him at 63 if I didn't have to maneuver). When Kelce retires, I'm going to be in a world of pain.
I actually feel pretty good at S and LB. OL and DL do need some TLC, but are serviceable to get me through another year. If this were a real team, hitting on another Edge who can apply pressure, a starting caliber CB, and someone with pulse at WT would make a bigger impact on the W/L column. RB surprised me too. I've always liked this year's class, but it's not a big position of need for the Trash Pandas today as you pointed out. However... Hall is in a contract year and is developing minor injury history. He also has a lot of miles dating back to college. Recent NFL precedents show a quick cliff might be approaching. The Jets have vocalized that they will be going RBBC this year. I could very easily see him slipping into obscurity if the cards fall the wrong way this year. While I like Chase Brown, I think Tahj supplants him by the end of the year. I liked the value of Johnson or Skatebo, and Tahj is simply a later round lottery pick I liked. I didn't expect to take a RB, let alone two, but I liked how the value landed. Given my awful WR drafting, the Trash Pandas may be angling towards a 21 personnel base scheme! |

Running back was an odd thing this year. In my first draft experiments, I figured I'd take a running back early. But there seemed to be a lot of good prospects, so I thought it would be better to take one in the middle rounds. Then at the end of the draft I hadn't picked one of them.

My CB room has been so strong for a while, it's hard to even look at new CBs. That said, I really liked Black in the 7th and I'm hopeful he can be my next Benford. I might be cutting Sneed this year, which will be painful after having the opportunity to trade him a season ago. With that shooting in Texas and his injury issues, I'm not feeling too good about keeping him around. It's also a sad year for me, as it might be time to let go of the last of my 2016 class, with Tyler Boyd and Matt Judon both still sitting out there as FAs. For many years, Boyd carried my team at WR with nearly 6400 yards in 9 seasons, and Judon is right there with Sieler for best value picks ever for me, with 72 sacks over 9 seasons and 4 Pro Bowls. Not bad for a 4th-rounder from nowhere. Getting better at WR has been a multi-year project I'm hoping finally pays some dividends. Spending firsts in back-to-back years on WR isn't my cup of tea, but I feel pretty good about Higgins and Worthy as my 1-2 punch with Washington in the slot. I believe Franklin can provide enough to be a solid #4. I have Hollywood in the mix, and I still have Gabe Davis as an occasional deep threat. I'm quietly hoping that Badger can take Davis' spot. I like that kid a bunch. Who knows if Denver will make something out of A.T. Perry, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm disappointed that I didn't get a dynamic RB from this class, but I didn't like the values at any point in the draft. I put more thought into Danny Stutsman (to give me a true MLB) vs. Xavier Watts (a value playmaker) at 95 than any RB available there, and that was probably the spot I would have had to take a RB that I liked. Kellerfox definitely put an onus on improving his depth at the spot over other depth, which deviated from both of us. I was already stacked at DT, so I didn't use the depth of this draft at all. Kellerfox didn't do much there either. You absolutely did, and I think you'll hit on some talent there. |
