Kind of sad, but whoever fills in for Gordon is almost certainly going to improve on Gordon's production so far this year. When Gordon comes back, it will be considered "his" position to take back...but depending on how well the fill-in played, there could be some awkward conversations. And if Alex isn't real good right away, there's gonna be talk of benching or semi-platooning him.

Alex is our Joe Mauer, our Konerko. A lifetime achievement award, 10s of millions wasted for past production. So the fans can feel good rooting their sucky player who is on the DL much of the time. Awesome!

Whenever Gordo gets injured and misses 4-6 weeks, we end up winning the World Series.

It's been discussed briefly, but what would it take to get Rich Hill from the A's? He's only signed for this season ($6M), so short term commitment. He's been outstanding since coming back to the majors late last year. I'm not sure there's a Zobrist out there this year for our offense, but Hill could be a nice shot in the arm for the rotation.

Injuries aside, you've got to be encouraged by the fact that we've narrowed the gap with Chicago from 7 to 3 games. Yeah, it's a marathon...but you don't want to fall that far back and stay there.
Honestly, I'm more concerned about Cleveland long-term though. |

I never was high on Gordon. Lf should hit homeruns.

Yeah think we signed the wrong guy. Gordon's contract may not end up being bad, but it's a scary thought right now when you compare the alternative Zobrist getting paid less. I know he's older but he's having a great year so far. 2.2 WAR, .335 avg, 31 walks already. Plays a more coveted position of need.
Plus we have a plethora of inexpensive outfielders who should be a great fit. Paulo Orlando Brett Eibner Jorge Bonifacio Rey Fuentes Whit Merrifield Jose Martinez**now DFAd ![]() Travis Snider Hunter Dozier CAN play some OF We really have too many of them. Good problem to have, but our system appears to be weaker on pitchers, position players than OFs |

Zobrist plays a position that is much more difficult to fill with a quality player. His versatility adds to his value. He was older, but we're in win-now mode. Gordon has been a great Royal, but he's much easier to replace.

Also, who of the pitchers we traded away would actually be helping us out right now besides Brandon Finnegan? So we'd have one extra guy, who probably would still be in the bullpen instead of where we need help in the bottom of the rotation.

I would be surprised if Rich Hill commands the same type of package Cueto did, but those trade deadline deals are tough to predict.
Re: Gordon, his slow start this year is concerning, but there also is a lot of time left on that deal to be blasting it as an awful deal. From a PR perspective internally and externally, it had value. I still believe he'll produce enough to be a cost neutral guy at the end of it all, personally. Re: Zobrist, that decision wasn't just about money, it was about where he wanted to play and for whom. He took less money than others offered to sign in Chicago, so KC offering more years or dollars might not have made any difference. My biggest issue with him is that KC uses Alex Gordon in a position in the lineup that doesn't maximize his skills. His OBP ability and base running are Gordon's two biggest strengths, and they're both wasted hitting 6th. KC would be better off hitting Gordon in front of Cain/Hosmer/etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What do you mean "no way"? Hill has been unhittable for 14 starts (.180 avg against). He's 7-3 2.16 ERA vs Cueto 7-6 2.62 ERA when he was traded last year. Hill only avg 6 IP vs 7 IP for Cueto but he will be the big fish avail this deadline and will command a ton
