Alexander Douglas Smith: 2016

We wouldn't we want to roll out another Alex Smith thread?!?!? Listen, for the Clay haters, this will probably be the thread that gets him banned. He can't help himself, right? Let's go!!!

First off, as many of you know, I have been very critical of Alexander Douglas Smith. Wasn't happy with the trade, HATED the extension, and have burned him to the ground from the beginning. So ****ing sick of the retread QB's.

So, that said Alex Smith is my Daddy. I mean, I just have to own that at this point. Here's why. He's never had continuity in a system. That guy had a new offensive coordinator just about every year until Jim Harbaugh showed up. And he flashed a little bit. That said, it sure looks like San Fran traded their best QB to us in favor of some douche that's starting some thing all over the league, while riding the bench to a guy named Blaine Gabbert.

Alex is now in his 4th year of the same system and it's showing. He's getting better. Why is he my daddy now all of a sudden though? Because he proved that he's more than just a game manager. He made some ****ing incredible throws against the Chargers last week. The back shoulder Maclin throw, the Maclin throw where Jeremy was almost killed, The Spencer Ware throws. Twice he hit him downfield (like, way more than 8 yards!), and then finally the Kelce throws.

People can give Spencer Ware a lot of credit, he is deserving of it after the monster game he had. Make no mistake about it though, Alexander Douglas Smith personally put this team on his back and willed them to victory. 1 play at a time. 1 throw at a time. He's a leader, and it reflected in the locker room after that game. They trust Alex now. They trust that he has what it takes to will them to victory in any game.

Alex isn't just a game manager anymore. He's a game changer, and a leader. This team could go 6-10 this year and I'll say the same thing. He has the ability and he's proven it. Now let's see where they go with it. I'm officially a YUGE Alex fan. What do you think? I'll take your comments off air.

Yeah, he's pretty definitely turned from trying to discuss football to actively attempting to anger fans.

He's entitled to do so, so long as he doesn't get abusive or anything. But his aim is clear. Forewarned is forearmed.

You're bad at math.

Alex Smith is 35-20 as the Chiefs starting QB (11-4 + playoff loss, 8-7, 11-5 + playoff win + playoff loss, 4-2). That's .636. Which equates to 10 wins a year.

High floor. Low ceiling.

Unlikely.

1) Baltimore scored 34 points. Alex Smith wins what, 10 percent of the time when his opponent scores more than 24 points? And it's not like QB play was the issue - Kaerpernick played well, and his only turnover did not lead to points.
2) The Falcons also scored 24 points in the NFC championship game. So again, you're starting at Alex Smith's abysmal record when his opponent scores that much. There's also the matter of the 17-0 deficit Kaerpernick and the 49ers offense rallied from.
3) Kaerpernick and the 49ers also won a shootout against the Packers in the divisional round, with Kaep running for 181 yards and throwing for 263 more.

What is likely, based on Alex's career, is that the 49ers would have beat the Vikings in the opening round, and then lost the shootout in the divisional round to Rodgers.

Funny how we can write off Derek Carr as a potential top tier QB because he doesn't react well to pressure yet can't seem to do the same for the guy who's apparently been plagued with the five worst guys to have in front of him every season.

LOL. Actually, I am great at math. I just made the mistake of grabbing someone else's numbers without checking them. I also wasn't factoring in postseason. Regular season he is 34-18. I guess that whoever put up that number gave him one win that was actually a loss. So the actual regular season win percentage is .654 Still pretty good. 10.46 wins per year is still well above average and will put your team in the playoffs most years. Not to mention, he won 11 games with a team that went 2-14 the year before. Half the team was gutted, and he had to learn Andy Reid's playbook and develop chemistry with the entire offense. The offensive line was horrible. Yet despite all of that, he led the team to 11 wins. I'll take that.

Also funny how Trevor Siemian sucks and is the reason the Broncos can't repeat ... and what he is doing as a rookie is 98-99 percent of Alex Smith's aggregate performance as a Chief in terms of completion percentage, YPA, and QB rating (as well as QBR). Heck, even their TD/Game and INT/game and TD/INT ratios are nearly identical.

Alex Smith is a great quarterback if you have a defense like the 15 Donkos.

Regular season wins are nice. I got over them in the 90s.

The team he inherited was not a traditional 2-win team, with six Pro Bowl players, and the Chiefs also benefited from an incredibly soft schedule and an incredible luck in terms of facing around a half-dozen backup or third-string QBs.

The 2013 OL is probably the best one he has played behind. It just gave up a ton of sacks because all OLs whose QB is Alex Smith give up a ton of sacks.

I dint thi k anyone will ever confuse Alex smith for a top tier qb, nor do I think any sensible person here has considered him one.

For me, it's about the same as guys like Flacco or eli, but alot less flashy. They've gotten to the playoffs and ridden hot streaks/good fortune to superbowls.

I don't really think either one are consistent top tier guys, but they're capable of playing to that level for a bit.

Chiefs could have easily won more playoff games and then some had the top talent, high-priced players actually been healthy, as intended.

Can't always account for these things. No Maclin vs NE.. No Justin Houston and a hobbling Hali time and again..

You lose your best players to injury, and yeah.. it's likely that your winning formula gets severely compromised.

Maybe, just maybe Hali and Houston will be 80% or above in the postseason ahead. Maybe JMac and other top players can be healthy this time around too.

It's sad and unfortunate that they have not been even close to full strength with their top players.. and this has been the prominent downfall in the win or go home games.

Shame we don't have a quarterback that can overcome setbacks.

Because you know, what's what they're supposed to do.
