After digesting the trade for a day...I've decided that it's s good trade for the Royals. I'm just not sure how it effects the clubhouse this year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The Star reports that Dayton wanted to do this deal at the winter meetings, and Seattle finally agreed to it yesterday. That's a good sign

Duffy
Ventura Kennedy Karns Vargas (?) Definitely fewer question marks on that rotation than there were at the beginning of the offseason. Still some concern, but there's a lot of hope that this can be a very good solid set of starting pitchers. Now if only we could do something about that pile AIDS Soria in the bullpen. |

Quick look at the 25 man projection. See a couple spots in the bullpen and looks like O'Brien to Omaha to start the year.
Catcher Salvy Buetera Infield Hos Moose Esky Whitfield Colon Chester Outfield Gordo Cain Soler Orlando Burns Starters Duffman Ace Kennedy Vargas Karns Bullpen Herrea Strahm Soria Flynn Young Minor? Somebody else? |

Staumont and Zimmer are viable options for the bullpen and if they were here can really make for a nasty young bullpen while also minimizing Soria's role. Granted, it all goes up in smoke once Zimmer has tightness 3 innings into spring training but just saying.... |

He had offensive production nearly 70% under major league average during his stint in KC. Let him remember the taste of the big leagues and continue developing. His ETA for the big leagues was widely believed to be mid-late 2017 anyway, so I think he can handle it. IIRC, we were all pretty stunned that Mondesi was called up last year when he was, especially coming right after he returned from suspension. Just my opinion. |

Think the 25 mans posted have been pretty close.
I think Mondesi starts the year at Omaha and they let him force his way back up. He needs ABs and some time to develop the prodigious tools he possesses. Here's my stab at a 25-man: C Perez, butera IF Hosmer Moustakas Escobar Merrifield Cuthbert Colon OF Cain Gordon Soler Orlando Burns Rotation Duffy Ventura Kennedy Karns Vargas Bullpen Herrera Strahm Soria Zimmer or Staumont Sanchez or Parnell or currently unsigned FA Flynn Chris Young I would guess Sanchez flames out, as does Parnell, and Staumont is sent to Omaha to continue working as a SP. With the free agent period starting to wind down, it sounds like KC will be keeping an eye on guys whose options are dwindling:
http://www.kansascity.com/sports/mlb...125187369.html It mentions Pedro Alvarez, who is a good fit for KC now, IMO (since you would like to have a lefty complement to Cain and Soler and Cuthbert for the DH slot). Other guys that might make sense now: Luis Valbuena (lefty bat, good power and OBP, can play corner IF spots). Angel Pagan (really like the potential here... switch hitter who would be a great fit as the new leadoff hitter, older but injury prone, can play all three OF spots). And then there's the DH group (Carter, Napoli, etc). Any of them could make sense for the right price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
