He blamed people who disagreed with him on political issues for 9/11. He called AIDS the "gay plague" and blasted churches who sought to include homosexuals. He said he believed Muhammad was a terrorist. He longed for the day when every child was taught at a church instead of a school. He was a segregationist in the '50s and '60s, said he didn't trust Martin Luther King, and supported Apartheid in the '80s.

He was, for all intents and purposes, a media-savvy Fred Phelps. Actually, on that last point, even Phelps fought for Civil Rights before he went batshit insane. Here's Falwell's take on the issue, from 1958:

"If Chief Justice Warren and his associates had known God’s word and had desired to do the Lord’s will, I am quite confident that the 1954 decision would never have been mad. The facilities should be separate. When God has drawn a line of distinction, we should not attempt to cross that line."

You couldn't be more wrong. Phelps has picketed Falwell a ton. I saw him picket Falwell's church when they had hundreds of homosexual folks out to have a dialogue.

Phelps says God hates bundle of stickss, Falwell was the exact opposite.

Only the most strident apologist couldn't connect the dots there.

AIDS is a fatal syndrome.
Falwell says that the occurrence of AIDS w/in the gay population is indicative of God's wrath.
Falwell claimed to be a man of God, which would thereby indicate support of God and his "decisions", which if you believe Falwell is a condition afflicted upon gays for their lifestyle that is always fatal.


Had he not wished death upon them via AIDS, he could have said the following things:

1) Nothing
2) It's an unfortunate occurrence


Instead, he resorted to his usual moral grandstanding, using the deaths of others as a way to promulgate his own hate-ridden message.
