I'm going to Vegas, baby!

OK, just got done booking a trip to Vegas in April. This will be my first time. Actually it will be my first real vacation ever. I have a few weeks to plan and I want to see as much stuff as possible.

Hit me with your recommendations. I want to know what places I need to visit, restaurants can't be missed, sights I should see. Trying to keep a budget so dropping big money on a bunch of shows isn't really my thing. I might gamble a little but I'm not big on gambling. I will be looking for photo spots though. I will be bringing my camera and taking a ton of pictures.

So what do you think, Planet? What do I need to see in VEGAS?

EDIT: Here's the link to the pics: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...&postcount=106

Thanks everybody!

Vegas was great, just starting to go through the photos, saw all sorts of cool things. Valley of Fire was COMPLETELY AWESOME, totally worth the drive to see. I'm glad we saw the Hoover dam but the Valley of Fire was the highlight of the trip. I can't even describe it, I tried to capture it in photographs as best I could, it's just the kind of thing you have to see for yourself.

I was surprised how little gambling & drinking we did compared to all the walking! Even taking the deuce we walked a ton. Hash House was great, Peppermill was great, thanks for the recommendations guys!

Dude the lake looks sooooo low.

I read an article that stated that the lake would run dry in 50 years.

Is it? I don't know how high it's supposed to be. Lake Mead was freaking enormous, I don't see how it could ever run out of water.

It's normal level is up where you see the rock turn from red to white.

Those estimates consider the enormous growth rate of Las Vegas and the surrounding area.

I have been going to Vegas on average of 10 times a year for the last 4 years...

Unless they get a crap ton of rain in the next 2-3 years. Lake Mead will slowly continue to drain into nothing...

That white rock was very noticable around the whole lake, but I assumed it was supposed to be like that.

I'm going to Las Vegas and staying at Monte Carlo. I'll be hanging around the Strip most of the time, and was wondering if a 3-day monorail pass is a good investment. Thanks.

I'm also looking into that RTC Bus option. I'm a first timer and not driving or renting a car. It seems that the bus goes to a downtown spot, and up all along the Strip, and its a little cheaper than the monorail.

I just went for my first time 2 months ago. Vegas is awesome!!! If you booked through Vegas.com and have free tickets I highly recommend KA over the Beatles show. I also recommend you budget for taxi's over the monorail. The monorail is cheap but you will spend 20-30 minutes of extra time walking to it and from it to where you want to go. You will be doing enough walking and eventually you will hate the monorail

If you like to drink and party, then here is my #1 tip. Rent a Limo one night for 1-2 hours and have them take you to a liquor store. The savings in booze will almost pay for the limo. We had 4 people which helped, but with 2 you will still get a great time and maybe get lucky in the limo I recommend Presidential Limo I think you can book them for $60 per hour.

HAVE FUN

Take the Deuce. $7 for a 24-hour pass and it has more stops than the monorail.

i totally forgot about the duece. 24 hour pass is totally better than the mono. monorail is okay. but the d hits just about everything you want to. and there's one every 10 minutes.
