I've talked about Kroenke's move to LA since 2010. St. Louis was always a pawn in his scheme.

But he's building a palace, has deep pockets and generally stays out of football decisions. For those reasons, he'll attract high profile people and will likely, at some point, win big.

The dude is a smart and successful businessman. He has all of the fiscal qualities you would want from an owner to go along with being hands off.

However, he openly says his priority isn't winning. What other owners have said that? And yes, I realize all owners in the NFL have the ultimate goal of making as much money as possible.

Additionally, the guy didn't say one word to the media in St. Louis or fans since January 2012, which was when Fisher was hired. What other owner that has the mental and physical capability to speak with people went years without speaking to local media?

Anybody that's been out of the game for 10 years will be woefully unprepared to step back into it, IMO. The hours and the preparation has been increasing exponentially for a decade.

The guy won a championship because his assistant didn't bother to change the terminology in Oakland after he took over the team. That's the NFL that Gruden left. The NFL he tries to re-enter will eat his ass alive.

He's gotten way too comfortable with his TV gig, IMO. He wouldn't have the drive to do the job right.

I totally disagree that he couldnt be successful again, football is still football... all of the plays called today are same ones he used to run for the most part, they're all just variations on the same theme

With his contacts and reputation, he would be able to assemble a solid coaching staff as well

It's not Madden. It isn't just the plays, it's when and how you call them. If it were as simple as just having the plays, every coach out there could run an offense by simply watching film for a year or so and stealing playbooks. It's tendencies, sequencing and little wrinkles you add to a route here and there.

He'll be outprepared every single week. He'd get blown out of the barn. It would be no different than when Spurrier thought he could work 20 hours a week and hang in the NFL like he did in college.

Unless he's willing to go back to the mattresses, he'll get smoked. I don't think he would be.

Dick Vermiel re-entered the league well before Jon Gruden retired.

The NFL has changed exponentially in just the last 10 years and every person on this board has acknowledged it. If Dick Vermiel or Al Saunders tried to saunter back onto the sideline, they'd lose 14 games.

Football from the late 90s looks positively paleolithic compared to what we see today. The amount of study, the reams of information, the advanced metrics and 'hidden data' that's everywhere for these guys to find now is light years beyond what he was when Gruden was still coaching.

He'd be dropped into the deep end of the pool and I don't think he'd be close to prepared for it. He could be bad teams with inexperienced coaching staffs still feeling their way, but he'd get eviscerated by every veteran coaching staff he runs into.

He's probably a good choice for them. Getting fired by the Browns is never a great thing to have on your resume but Belichick survived it alright...

I was never terribly impressed by him in Washington but that's just such a mess of an organization that you can't get much of a read on anything.

He's had a hell of a season this year in Atlanta and Ryan says great things about him. He didn't look so good as they were circling the drain in 2015 and he couldn't do anything to save 'em, but everybody has a blip or two.

I think he's a smart offensive mind who, like any new coach, would have to establish that he has the organizational and personnel management skills to sit in the big chair. The Donks are going to get a good coach one way or the other so his hiring wouldn't do much to move the needle for me either way. They're not going to hire Rich Kotite and who is a given to be a success? I think would be a solid hire and time will tell if it works out.

Let's not forget why Shanahan was fired from Cleveland.

Because Lombardi, another shit for brains Parcells personnel guy who believes in the Patriots cult, decided to clean house on Chudzinski after one year. And surprise surprise... why did Lombardi fire Chud? Because Lombardi got advice from Bellichick that he should hire Greg Schiano. He didn't get fired because he failed. In fact, he's one the only guys who made Cleveland's offense semi-watchable the past 10 years. He's a good offensive mind and I don't want him near Denver. But that doesn't mean he's HC material.

Gruden is an intriguing candidate. He's a much more interesting candidate than, say, Cowher.

Gruden has actually been relentlessly studying the spread so he's been a student of the game while he's been out. And he still has a terrific network -- keep in mind that he was the one who recommended Sutton to Andy Reid, so I love me some Gruden. And obviously, he's been studying draft prospects for years.

There's no doubt he can still coach players. But dude has a ton of clout to recruit an all star coaching staff and would install a very modern offense. Would be cool to see the guy get another shot.
