At number 3 the Chiefs should take a QB...

However, Chiefs fans should not expect the same results as those delivered by Flacco and Ryan. I say that for mainly one reason. Both Flacco and Ryan finished their senior years at their respective schools. That level of maturity and leadership experience certainly helped them in their preparation for their rookie year in the NFL.

Both Stafford and Bradford will be underclassmen if they come out. They won't have the same level of maturity or leadership experience when they hit the NFL. I know they are both leaders, but in college being a senior in the lockerroom carries a lot weight and respect even if there is a talented QB in the lockerroom as well.

Take Mizzou for example. Last season Chase Daniel was a leader on the team, but THE leaders on the team were Pig Brown and Martin Rucker. Seniors carry the big stick in college.

Go look at some of the best teams in the league and tell me how many 1st round offensive lineman they have you'll see the answer is frequently 1 or none, there is no need to have a bunch of first round offensive lineman.

I've thought about it. And it's still a bad argument. So your argument is that any 2nd-day pick QB who doesn't make the Super Bowl in his first season of starts should be benched?

I don't care about the circumstances behind a player starting. What I know is that Thigpen got a chance and he played reasonably well, given his experience level. Who cares if he started because Croyle and HUard got injured, or if one of them got caught sleeping with Huard's sister, or if Thigpen murdered the two starters to get his chance to start. Who cares what the circumstances are behind a player starting are.

I don't care where they were drafted. I just want linemen who can play. And we don't have nearly enough of them.

Ok, I just get really sick and tired of it when people constantly go to the OL argument when we talk QB, there is 0 reason for this team to take a OT with a top 5 pick this year.

The difference between Matt Stafford and Sam Bradford might be catostrophically different, however I'm hoping that both are viable NFL QBs.
It amazes me that people get bent out of shape because someone started a thread on a topic that may have been already discussed. My apologies for offending you.

To answer your rant, this particular angle had not been talked about. This is not about Leaf or Manning. I'm not talking about a bust (Leaf) or a guy who was awful his first year and became a Hall of Fame QB (Elway/Manning). I'm talking about the expectations of an impatient fan base.

Chiefs fans have been saying for a while that they wanted us to blow the whole thing up and start from the ground to rebuild the franchise even if it meant a horrible season. It would be good in the long run. Yet those same fans whined and cried the entire season about how we should win more games. IMPATIENT. Now if we take a QB at #3 after the 2 QB's drafted in the first round in 2008 went to the playoffs, the expectations of tis fan base will be a 10-6/11-5 season that results in a playoff appearance. My point is that is very unlikely. There is a big difference between a player's junior year and his senior year. It doesn't matter that Stafford has started a bunch of games at Georgia. More than half of those were against non-conference nobodies or teams with far less talent than the SEC elite. What's his record and performance against Florida, Alabama and LSU. Those are the teams with talent to match up with Georgia. What's Bradford's record and performance against Texas and BCS Bowl games? That's the type of game pressure he'll get for 16 weeks in the NFL.

Yes we need to take a QB at #3, but we must also be patient with his development.

Someone asked a fair question about Thigpen and why he doesn't get 3 years to develop. He should, however, the Chiefs would be foolish to count solely on him to be the answer at QB. His performance in the 3rd and 4th quarters of games leaves HUGE question marks about his ability to move the team in crunch time. His performance against the Bengals leaves HUGE question marks to his ability to be a starting NFL QB.

All I have to say is if these guys don't come out or we aren't in position to get a QB then we better take Taylor Mays cause a OT wouldn't be a good pick for this team and those DE's just don't do it for me.

i got it ......

less expectations for a top 3 drafted Quarterback in his 1st year than a undrafted FA QB in his first "real" year.

If you are a late pick you have to show something right away, no team is going to waste 5 years developing a low round player so he can be an average player, it just doesn't work that way.

Odds are against him even developing if you take that approach with a team you'd find a few good players and a bunch of turds.

Personally I don't think you take that chance at the most important position on a team.

Take the best QB at the time of our pick ... look at FA for a pass rusher and LBs ...

I can't remember the front office dude, but I read in some interview-probably here, that the priority for building a team is:

1st QB
2nd LT
3ed DE
4th CB

I like what we have at LT and CB. Yes we need a DE (actually 2), but our 1st priority has got to be to fill the QB position.

You DO NOT take any other OL in the first round. I'm not sure we need a RT. We drafted Richardson last year. He needs to play. Remember Will Shields was a 3rd round pick, Dave Szott a 7th, Brian Waters was a free agent TE when we got him.

And how many times do we have to tell you that we would have accepted losing as the result of mistakes by the youg players.

This team lost games because the coaching staff failed the players.

Thats pretty much correct for the most part.

Those 4 you mentioned are all "Core" positions.

Most other positions can be filled in with later picks or decent free agent pickups.
