Chiefs Re-Signing Brandon Carr: What Do You Do - Page 9

There's about four more week of football ahead of us.

We've managed to wrap up Brandon Flowers during the season, Tamba Hali this offseason, DJ and Jamaal Charles last offseason...

This offseason, we have two very important players hitting free agency, and one franchise tag.

The tag goes to Bowe, no sweat. It's impossible to find franchise WRs, and when you have one, you must keep it. He's Top 10 at his position. Carr, for all his talent, is not. He's maybe top 25.

But what would you do if:

Carr (or, more likely, his agent) knows Carr is bound to be drastically overpaid on the free agent market, as young talent almost always is.

He knows the Chiefs desperately want Carr to stay on board. And the Chiefs have no leverage to keep him on board because their franchise tag is tied up with Bowe.

So knowing he has ALL the leverage in this situation, Carr opens big:

"I want 5 years, $50 million, $22 million guaranteed.

Just like my teammate, Brandon Flowers." (And other top flight corners like Johnathan Joseph, who got almost the exact same deal.)

You can haggle with Carr, but keep in mind, you're incredibly time-pressured, and Carr knows he has the leverage here. Even if you get him to come down, it's going to be nickels and dimes lower, not much else.

Do you (a.) sign Carr to a damn near identical deal to Brandon Flowers, or (b.)let Carr walk and just collect the 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick next year.

That's likely going to be our options at this point, folks.

And just about every one of them was underachieving with Herm at the helm. Pioli's main drafts are rookie and second year players what the hell do you expect?

Carr is better than the OP evaluates him at. He is not top 5, so he does not deserve that type of money, but he deserves to get paid well.

That 2008 draft class was absolutely loaded compared to the '09 class. Tyson Jackson is becoming a solid starter. Pioli was here for 3 months before the draft, i'll give him a flyer

Yeah, we'll forget about Belcher, Lewis, Berry, Moeaki, Asamoah, Arenas and Houston. They're all playing at a high level.

We'll also forget that Bowe, Hali and Johnson are playing at a higher level under this regime.

All those other 1-2 year players...screw 'em!

I can’t stand this excuse. What was Pioli doing the few years before he came to KC? Was he on vacation in Tibet? No, he was doing the same thing he does here – evaluating talent.

Pioli got 3 starters out of that draft class... Tyson Jackson, Succup, and Belcher.

Outside of the '08 class Herm and Carl got two starter out of his other two draft classes still with the team.

The 2010 and 2011 classes have the potential to be even better classes then the '08 IMO. If that not they will be close. It's not even a comparison. Yes we could of taken Raji in '09 but he had off the field problems and was a big risk. It's not even close, outside of the QB Pioli is the real deal on draft day.

Two points: First, he left New England before he could have had access to all of their scouting reports. Second, I doubt New England let him leave with their proprietary scouting data. Not to mention it was probably the weakest class in draft history.

Pioli flat out ****ed up the draft on his own accord.

The same scouts from the year before gave us the best draft class the team has had in a long time.
