Jonathan Martin leaves Dolphins after 'breakdown'

An unusual situation is unfolding in Miami, where Dolphins right tackle Jonathan Martin has left the team after suffering an "emotional breakdown" this week.

NFL Media's Jeff Darlington reported Wednesday that Martin is currently seeking help with his family after an incident at the team's cafeteria, according to team sources.

Martin is listed on the team's injury report with an illness, and is doubtful to play Thursday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Fox NFL insider Jay Glazer reported that Martin was the victim of a prank at the cafeteria, becoming enraged enough to "smash his food tray on the ground."

The second-year pro has not been with the team since that time. Darlington reports that Martin immediately sought treatment at a local hospital. He has since left the hospital and is now spending time with his family, according to team sources.

Martin opened the season as the Dolphins' replacement for Jake Long at left tackle. He was moved to right tackle when the team acquired Bryant McKinnie via trade last week. Tyson Clabo is expected to start in Martin's place on Thursday.

If you want to go further, I’ve even seen a teammate piss on another teammate. They think it’s funny. They are having a conversation and the whole time one guy is peeing on him and the other doesn’t even know

This post, like all of your posts, is pure bullshit.

First off, you have no idea if Pedersen "sucks". He's not given any game day responsibility. He doesn't call plays. His job is to make sure that all of the position coaches prepare their players for Andy's game plan.

Secondly, Philbin might as well be AIDS after this season. No team, outside of maybe Green Bay, will want him around.

Lastly, Miami is 31st in total offense, Dumbass.

After all this he can make countless millions playing a game before inheriting enough money to buy several small countries but chooses instead to walk out and sue for what will probably amount to more than he would ever have made without having to lift a finger. Richie Incognito is out to clear his name and return to the NFL.

The lineman was suspended by the Miami Dolphins in November after allegations of bullying by teammate Jonathan Martin, who left the team because of what he described as constant personal attacks he felt crossed the line of normal locker room banter.

After Martin made his first public comments in an interview with NBC Sports on Wednesday, Incognito's attorney Mark Schamel shared details of texts between the two with Fox News.

In a statement to Fox News, Schamel noted both players engaged in dialogue that was of "poor taste." Schamel said the texts and voice mail messages exchanged show "banter between friends, not bullying."

Incognito's lawyers have insisted a friendship existed between the players, despite the exchange of crude comments.

In his interview with NBC Sports, Martin was evasive about his relationship with Incognito, stating that he tried and wanted to be friends, but came up short of answering the question.

Martin's spokeswoman, Ann Marchant, told Fox News the crude comments made by Martin were in the context of trying "to be a friend to Richie and to fit in" with the team.

Schamel, though, says other texts to Incognito show that Martin was concerned about his on-field performance.

"Jonathan Martin also raised concerns with Richie Incognito that he was not playing well, about how upset he was at being ranked by Pro Football Focus as among the worst lineman in the NFL, about his poor performance on the field, his demotion to right tackle and how he was concerned about what the outcome might be for his missing team meetings and about how he felt his job was at risk," Schamel said in his statement to Fox News.

"It was only after sharing these concerns, and Martin's abandonment of the team, that the bullying allegations were raised. Rather than deal with his poor on-field performance and myriad other issues, Martin is now hiding behind false allegations."

Attorney Theodore Wells is set to release a report next week detailing his investigation of the incidents between Incognito and Martin, as well as the Dolphins' locker room culture.

I call bullshit. If I'm not mistaken, Ireland directed players to toughen Martin up. We don't know if Martin was texting back to play along, or if he was having a friendly text exchange. Both are incriminating to Martin, but there is a big difference between the two.

Here's what I feel like we know. Incognitos dad claimed Martin was suicidal. The dolphins GM knowing this instructed his players to toughen Martin up instead of handle the situation more delicately. Incognito was one of the main guys asked to carry out the 'code red'. I think the story is increasingly forgiving of incognito, but he doesn't have a good history to necessarily give him the benefit of the doubt. So to me, this still reeks of a completely bone headed way of managing a locker room.
