If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.
A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.
So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way. From 2005 draft ...
CNNSI Alex Smith Grade: 4.41 Position: QB Class: Jr School: Utah Conference: MWC Ht., Wt.: 6-4, 217 40 Time: 4.76 Selected by: San Francisco 49ers Round 1, pick 1 (1 overall) Grading System BIO: Two year starter voted MWC Player of the Year last season after passing numbers of 67.5 percent/2,952/32/4. All-Conference selection as a sophomore after posting 65 percent/2,247/15/3. POSITIVES: Efficient and reliable passer that's done well in his college system. Accurate in the short field, leads receivers over the middle and places throws where only his target can make the reception. Solid timing on crossing patterns. Patient in the pocket, effectively reads the defense and does not make poor decisions. Goes through receiver progressions, waits for pass catchers to come free and throws to the safe underneath target if nothing's available downfield. Sets up with solid fundamentals and passes with an over-the-top delivery. Keeps his feet active and easily gets outside the pocket, making the throw on the move. Displays outstanding wherewithal and knows where receivers are on the field. Throws tight spiral with good zip. Stands strong and poised in the pocket as it collapses around him. NEGATIVES: Must improve his corner patters in the end zone as passes tend to be flat. Rarely threw the ball down field in the Utah system. ANALYSIS: A natural leader that does an excellent job running the offense, Smith has been very productive the past two years. Stays away from mistakes and has a tremendous touchdown-to-interception ratio. Does not have a deep passing arm just yet but would be initially effective in a timing or West Coast offense as he grows into a pro passing game. PROJECTION: Early First Round

Alex had physical talent until his arm got torn off. Now he is a mediocre arm with a mediocre football intellect.

Alex Smith does have physical talent, he also is upwards of 230 lbs now. His frame has definitely filled out. As far as his arm goes, I think youll see that not only is it above avg but the last 2 years hes has been working with Tom House the renound QB guru to fix the hitch he had from the surgery. It was recommended to him by drew brees who went through the same thing. Pretty great read if you can find the article, interesting guy. That hit by Rocky Bernard that blew his shoulder up was brutal. I wont say he is injury prone. In todays NFL you just cant play with a concussion anymore. The shoulder injury has long been behind him, to say that is like saying i worry about Tom Brady's ACL every year. |

The offense was rolling until later in that Tennessee game and that ****ing reerun boob Haley went apeshit and got into it with Weis in a game they were blowing the Titans out. They were destroyed by Oakland and Baltimore in consecutive weeks. Coincidence? I think not.

He's mentally tough and resilient, and that will earn respect, but I don't think it's enough to put a team in the SB.

Alex Smith has suffered concussions and also has had shoulder injury. I'm not saying he is going be removed right away with any big hits but he is a huge liability to last very long if he can make it through a season or two I will be surprised. I'm not even saying Alex Smith isn't tough mentally just saying he is weak physically and this contributes to why I'm not happy with this 2nd round trade and really be upset if we have to give up another 2nd round trade and not acquire a rookie draft pick next year. Alex Smith is not young and has a worn arm and has taken some nasty hits. His window here is very short imo.

He's reluctant. He trusts his brain more than his talent. He'll hold the ball FOR-EH-VER while deciding where to go with hit. He WILL progress through his reads (unlike Ca$$hole's "is Bowe open?...nope...CHECK DOWN!) and almost always take the highest percentage pass. That pass most often being short, under 15 yards, and after 4 or 5 seconds. It's not that he can't step up it's that he's so timid due to YEARS of completely sucking that he's fully leashed for life. It's like trying to rip the armor off of Vader...

I think you make far too much of his injury history, and fail to recognize that his efficiency makes him a major upgrade to the shit we did have. As long as Reid doesn't try to round peg him into a square hole, he'll be productive. I recognize, however, that better than bad does not equal good. He's the very epitome of JAG.

If Alex were running a 95-96 Chiefs WCO he'd be fine. Likely much better that what we had.

I can't predict the future all I can do is hope for the best scenario to play out for the Chiefs right or wrong I'm rooting for the Chiefs to win a Super Bowl. I just disagree with the route to get there. I am very bitter for another wasted opportunity to draft a top prospect and take a chance on a quarterback. This is a prove it that Alex Smith is going be worth the trade on the field for Andy Reid and John Dorsey. I am trying hard to see that Alex Smith is going be worth a damn but not getting there.
