2015 Clinched Central Division title and Home Field advantage in the playoffs. First team in MLB to win 100 games since 2011.

  • Made the postseason 11 times in the last 15 seasons.
  • Only 1 losing season since 2000.
  • Reached the World Series 4 times since 2004 and won as many championships (two) the past eight seasons as it did from 1965 to 2005.
  • Made the NLCS 9 times including the last 4 years 2011-2014
  • Three million attendance? Take it to the bank.
  • 65 post season wins since 2004. 22+ wins more than any other team.

This pisses me off. If Matheny sits Piscotty or Grichuk on the bench and plays Jay instead, I'm going medieval on Matheny. He is not a "better" option than Grichuk/Piscotty. Both may be All-Stars someday. Jay will forever be a slap hitter. We need the upgrade not downgrade in CF.

Center fielder Jon Jay began taking batting practice outside this week but will have to have a second rehabilitation assignment for his injured left wrist. “We’d like to see him starting to get this in gear and give us an option (in center field),” said Matheny.


“Tommy (Pham) is doing a nice job in center field but you always like to have Jon Jay back as a part of your club. When we get to the point where he’s feeling his strength is right and (the wrist) is responding, get him out, get him playing and get him back on the roster.”

MLB should take the approach of the NFL in the playoffs. After each round, the seeds should be reseeded according to record.

The Bucs and Cubs are getting screwed by playing in the WC. As the top seed we shouldn't have to play the team with the 2nd best record in the NLDS.

The division would still have value as a home field advantage.

I would still not want to face the 1-2 punch of Harvey/Degrom or Kershaw/Greinke in a 5 game series so I don't so much mind the Pirates or Cubs, especially if both teams have to burn their aces in the WC game (most likely Cole vs. Arrieta)

Disagree.

The top team in the league should get the benefit of playing the WC team that had to burn it's ace. That team, in a short series, generally has a decided disadvantage.

In a 7 gamer, I'd agree with you because the #1 starter is still almost certainly going to get 2 starts (which is how most managers would handle that #1 guy anyway). But in a 5 game set, if the Pirates have to burn Cole in game 3, they won't be getting him back in game 5. I'd rather be the team that gets to face that squad at it's weakest than potentially have to deal with them in the next round now with their ace presumably back on regular rest and able to take the ball in game 1.
