Chiefs cap room for 2013

How much do we have ATM? I know it has been addressed recently in another post nut I can't seem to find it. Lets assume we cut Jackson and Cassel outright.

Cut Studebaker and Succop. (That frees up 4 million)

Re-sign Albert long term. (That's gotta clear up 2-3)

Re-sign Berry long term. (That's gotta clear up 2-3)

Sign Dumervil. (8, you say?)

Kill Peyton.

Updated #Chiefs numbers bring their 2013 est. cap to $119.8M. With a rookie deals to come, it's likely they're done. http://bit.ly/YxTGx0

Only 3.8m under cap need 5m to draft

Kansas City Chiefs

Cap room: $5.48 million

Comment: This does not include the deal for lineman Geoff Schwartz. The Chiefs can find some more room, but they’ve done a lot of heavy lifting so far.

Geoff got 1.2m so the chiefs have 4.28m under

I can't believe we are keeping Studebaker. 2 million is a lot of money for a ST player.

Extending Eric Berry would be a great way to free up salary space. Signing Albert long-term would also allow the team to structure salaries more efficiently. And of course, a little over 2 million for cutting Studebaker.

I don't know if they want to sign Albert long term.

What if they tag him this year, draft LT Luke, and just play him at RT for one year? You can then let Albert walk or trade him next year, slide Joeckel over to LT, and replace a RT fairly easily.

Dorsey clearly likes to have options. Even if we want to resign Albert it makes little sense to do so before the draft and tip our hand...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

What the **** kind of sense does this make?

Either:
1) You just spent your first overall pick to improve at right tackle.
or
2) You just spent your first overall pick to save four million bucks a year on your LT and you hope Joeckel becomes what Albert already is.

Drafting a LT at 1.1 would epitomize ineptitude on the part of the front office. You could not POSSIBLY find a more wasteful use of the top pick for the Chiefs.

I do agree that you should wait to sign Albert til after the draft, however.

Stude is the long snapper(actually practiced it with the Eagles). And very well could have been Romeo's secret emergency QB.

I can't imagine a team being stupid enough to spend a 1.1 on RT.

What sense does that make?

You play Luke at RT and he busts you waste a pick but it doesn't hurt you on the field. You trade Albert and replace him with a bust and you suffer on the field and wasted a pick to do it.

I never stated I liked the move. I don't, but I can see why they might.

Keep in mind Dorsey has stated over and over and over that he wants to take the BAA. That means sometimes that player doesn't even start.

The Berry extension seems like such a no-brainer that I have to believe they're working on it.

Hali's damn near impossible to re-structure because i don't think they have any interest in tacking extra years onto his deal. Berry, OTOH, at a $10 million cap hit could and should be re-signed on a 5-year deal that gives him a top 5 safety figure, IMO.

I'll acknowledge that he may not reach that level, but the cap relief gained would be worth the possible overpay, and continuity in the secondary is always worth its weight in gold.
