The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

Yup agree, that is why I said Barkley is going 1st round. That leaves Wilson and Nassib being the typical 2nd round names but after the Senior Bowl and today, Manuel will never make it out of the 2nd round now. Teams that will take Manuel will be doing so with the thought of his upside and that he is someone they can have patience with. That sets up KC with the addition of Alex Smith.

SNR, please believe he has been wrong. The track record isn't 100%.

I'm hoping this is a swing and a miss.

The only way this rationalizes anything is if we draft a developmental guy and we are a seriousl threat to go deep in the playoffs every year.

Mixture of both. It's me reading the tea leaves. However, the source did tell me last week that if they did acquire a veteran to start, that they would still be interested in drafting a QB.

Maybe the 49ers are just putting this out there to make it look like there is interest in Smith.

If we're trading for Alex Smith, we better make a deep run this year.

I'm not rationalizing ANYTHING with Alex Smith at QB. He's worthless. He's going to cause this team to take a LT at #1 and franchise tag Bowe.
