Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

Going through my Errol Flynn Box Set and watched "Adventures of Don Juan", "The Dawn Patrol", and "Charge of the Light Brigade" this past weekend. Will watch "Gentleman Jim" and "Elizabeth and Essex" this upcoming weekend.

Then it's time to drag out my Marx Brothers. I'm thinking "Night at the Opera" and "Duck Soup" for starters.
The first 30 minutes or so of Animal Crackers is hilarious.

I just finally got around to watching Ip Man 2. Great movie. I highly recommend both 1 and 2. It's basically a real life Rocky story, very bad ass. I played it in English as I watched it with my kids (I prefer original dialogue w/ subtitles) and really enjoyed it.

Mrs. FMB and I watch a lot of movies. We sometimes have a very difficult time deciding what to watch. So now we've made a game of it. Sort of a Six Degrees game.

We have two options, haven't decided which to do.

Start with a movie, any movie. Next movie must be connected by an actor or director. You can't use the same actor more than twice in a row.

Here's where we have the option: A. Keep going on that pattern. B. Must take it back to the original film actor or director, then you start over with a completely different movie.

So here's where we are.

The Departed --> (Leonardo DiCaprio and/or Martin Scorsese) --> Gangs of New York --> (Daniel Day Lews) --> There Will Be Blood -->

The next one could be Paul Thomas Anderson to Boogie Nights for the completion at Mark Wahlberg. At that point, we'd find a new movie and start over. Or we could keep going with an actor from There Will Be Blood or another one of PTA's films.

Saw Pirates 4 last week. Not as good as the original trilogy but it was ok. Definately scaled back the budget, but it had alot of action.

1 was good. I absolutely hated 2 and 3. Should I see it?

I think 4 is the second best of the series. Even though there's a lot of fantasy in all of them, 2 and 3 were too fantastical for me.

You know, 3 or 4 years ago i didnt care for them much either..but lately my son has started to get into the series and ive re-watched them. I think the original trilogy is truly epic and great. I think the 2nd and 3rd ones could use about 15 to 20 minutes cut out of them, but they are superb other than that.

Saw the adjustment bureau, not smart enough and they played it safe.

Sucker punch, tried to be too smart with a lousy narrative and all action. I don't get why people called it offensive.

Cedar rapids is the hangover with only ed helmes. Not good.

Insedious got really stupid really fast. Like eye rolling bad in the third act. Even as a horror movie the sound track was just grating my ears.
