Next weeks story:

Denver Topples Kansas City
By Marv McGavin

It was certainly an unexpected outcome on Sunday, as Denver beat Kansas City in a critical matchup that has season-long implications for both teams. Denver finally found their rhythm and were able to consistently move the ball. Kansas City was never able to find a way to get the ball in the hands of their explosive playmakers often enough.

Neckman Manning stepped up in the clutch to seal the game, proving he's one of those rare players who rises to another level when the game's on the line. "I'm here to contribute in any way I can. I'm just happy to be on the team. Starting, coming off the bench, doesn't matter. I want to be a good teammate and contribute," he said after the game. The debate over whether Neckman Manning is truly elite is far from settled, but he made his case forcefully all afternoon.

Peyton Hillis's shaky first half performance was too much to overcome, as his late game effort fell short. He said after the game, "We didn't bring out A-game today. We didn't step up when we needed to and make the plays we needed to make." Peyton Hillis showed a lot of courage in the face of adversity on Sunday. Now he needs to put it all together for Kansas City to get back among the top teams in the league.

Kansas City just can't contintue to make the kinds of mistakes they made at this level of the sport. Kansas City fans had higher hopes for the defense this season, but if they keep playing at this level significant changes will be needed in the offseason. On the offensive side of the ball, the line is going to have to gel soon for Kansas City to start scoring more points.

Call Denver lucky if you want, but great teams make their own luck. Kansas City just couldn't capitalize on their opportunities. They'll need to be better if they want to be playing in January.

Kansas City Edges Denver
By Chip McGavin

It might be premature to say that Kansas City's victory on Sunday puts them on the path to postseason success. But Denver dropped a badly needed game they wish they could have back. Kansas City's key to victory was consistently gaining the upper hand in the struggle for field position. Although it's not time to panic yet in Denver, they're going to need to find a way to get it done before it's too late.

Ricky Stanzi has at last lived up to the lofty expectations he set for himself. "For me it's not about the individual records," he said after the game. "It's all about the team. I'm just glad we were able to go out there and get the win today," he added. Ricky Stanzi appears to be coming into his own. He has finally tuned out his critics and feels comfortable with his role.

Peyton Manning appeared unfocused at times, and often appeared confused by what Kansas City threw at him. "We're going to learn what we can from this loss," he said after the game. "We'll take a look at the film tomorrow and improve where we can. It's a process," he added. Peyton Manning has a tireless work ethic. He's been a consumate professional, but he'll need to find his killer instinct for Denver to claw back on top of their division.

What Denver needs to do at this point is clear. On defense, Denver needs to get creative and dial up more blitzes to keep opposing offenses on their heels. The offense's performance was also less than inspiring, stalling numerous times in opponent territory.

Kansas City's locker room celebration was muted as the players already focused on the next challenge awaiting them. Denver just couldn't capitalize on their opportunities. They'll need to be better if they want to be playing in January. Kansas City really dodged a bullet and escaped with the 'W'.

Actually, I like this one better:

Kansas City Defeats Denver
By Chas McGavin

Sunday's game was a hard faught contest of wills, but in the end Kansas City pulled out the much-needed victory over Denver. Question marks remain for both teams, however. Kansas City was finally able to find their identity and stick with what works. Denver was never able to find a way to get the ball in the hands of their explosive playmakers often enough.

Geno Smith has at last lived up to the lofty expectations he set for himself. "I'm here to contribute in any way I can. I'm just happy to be on the team. Starting, coming off the bench, doesn't matter. I want to be a good teammate and contribute," he said after the game. The debate over whether Geno Smith is truly elite is far from settled, but he made his case forcefully all afternoon.

Peyton Manning never could find his game, and his frustration was evident as the final seconds ticked off the clock. "We stuck together and gave it 110 percent. It just wasn't enough to get the win in the end," he said in the post-game press conference. Peyton Manning has a tireless work ethic. He's been a consumate professional, but he'll need to find his killer instinct for Denver to claw back on top of their division.

What Denver needs to do at this point is clear. Denver fans had higher hopes for the defense this season, but if they keep playing at this level significant changes will be needed in the offseason. The offense sputtered too often and just couldn't move the chains. They're going to have to find a way to get it done in the red zone.

As for Kansas City, they just need to keep up their momentum heading into next week. Kansas City came out of the locker room with something to prove, and prove it they did. Denver just couldn't rise to the occasion. Kansas City really dodged a bullet and escaped with the 'W'.

It was certainly an unexpected outcome on Sunday, as Kansas City beat Kansas City in a critical matchup that has season-long implications for both teams. The key to victory for Kansas City was that they were able to win the turnover battle. Kansas City was never able to find a way to get the ball in the hands of their explosive playmakers often enough.

KC Wolf's second half performance was critical in the win. At times it appeared he willed his team to victory. He said after the game, "I thought the coaching staff put us in a position to be successful. We just went out there and executed the gameplan." The debate over whether KC Wolf is truly elite is far from settled, but he made his case forcefully all afternoon.

Warpaint appeared unfocused at times, and often appeared confused by what Kansas City threw at him. He said after the game, "We didn't bring out A-game today. We didn't step up when we needed to and make the plays we needed to make." Warpaint's mistakes were costly. You just can't play like that at this level.

The pressure is mounting on Kansas City, but they can't let it get to them. The defense left a lot to be desired, giving up far too many yards both on the ground and in the air. The offense's performance was also less than inspiring, stalling numerous times in opponent territory.

Kansas City and Kansas City are headed in different directions. Kansas City just couldn't capitalize on their opportunities. They'll need to be better if they want to be playing in January. Kansas City really dodged a bullet and escaped with the 'W'.

Kansas City Topples Denver
By Tad Alvarado

Sunday's game was a hard faught contest of wills, but in the end Kansas City pulled out the much-needed victory over Denver. Question marks remain for both teams, however. Kansas City finally found their rhythm and were able to consistently move the ball. Despite some flashes of effectiveness, Denver struggled to consistently move the ball all day.

Terrance Copper's second half performance was critical in the win. At times it appeared he willed his team to victory. "I'm here to contribute in any way I can. I'm just happy to be on the team. Starting, coming off the bench, doesn't matter. I want to be a good teammate and contribute," he said after the game. It's a long season, and Terrance Copper will have to take things one game at time.

Von Miller's shaky first half performance was too much to overcome, as his late game effort fell short. "Gotta' hand it to Kansas City. They played well all game. We just couldn't get it done," he said following the game. Von Miller is a great student of the game, and he'll bounce back. He'll need to for Denver to climb back in to the playoff hunt.

For Denver to turn their fortunes around, the solution is obvious. The defense left a lot to be desired, giving up far too many yards both on the ground and in the air. The offense can't continue to settle for field goals when touchdowns are badly needed. They'll need to eliminate mental errors to give themselves a real chance to win.

Kansas City has proven they can get it done in crunch time. Everyone knows football is a game of emotion, and clearly Kansas City showed they had the passion to come out on top.

Kansas City Defeats Denver
By Boomer Clicheheimer

It was certainly an unexpected outcome on Sunday, as Kansas City beat Denver in a critical matchup that has season-long implications for both teams. Kansas City was able to take care of the ball, limiting turnovers on their way to the win. Despite some flashes of effectiveness, Denver struggled to consistently move the ball all day.

The Beast that is Jamaal Charles silenced his critics with a solid, although imperfect, outing. "We just found a way to get it done today," he said after the game. "We've got a lot of great guys in the locker room. This team is special," he added. It's a long season, and The Beast that is Jamaal Charles will have to take things one game at time.

McNugget didn't have enough tricks up his sleeve, as Kansas City was able to contain him most of the game. "Gotta' hand it to Kansas City. They played well all game. We just couldn't get it done," he said following the game. McNugget's mistakes were costly. You just can't play like that at this level.

Denver just can't contintue to make the kinds of mistakes they made at this level of the sport. The defense can't continue to rely on the blitz so often. They'll need to be more fundamentally sound in passing situations without rolling the dice and exposing themselves for potential big plays. The offense let themselves become too predictable Sunday. Defenses in this league will pounce quickly.

Kansas City and Denver are headed in different directions. Kansas City came out of the locker room with something to prove, and prove it they did. Denver just couldn't rise to the occasion. Kansas City really dodged a bullet and escaped with the 'W'.

Denver Outlasts Kansas City
By Boomer Twinkleton

It went down just how everyone expected it to on Sunday, as Denver beat Kansas City in a critical matchup that has season-long implications for both teams. Denver was finally able to find their identity and stick with what works. If Kansas City wants to be in the mix for a playoff spot, they'll need to right the ship before next week's showdown with their division foe.

Midgets showed that he has what it takes to fit into Denver's new dynamic. "It was a real team effort. We just kept fighting out there, grinding it out," he said after the game. "We took what the opponent gave us, and it paid off," he added. For now, Midgets has shown that he can fit in to Denver's new scheme, and can be an effective leader both on and off the field.

Cassel didn't have enough tricks up his sleeve, as Denver was able to contain him most of the game. "It's disappointing," he said after the game. "We left it all out there on the field and just fell short," he added. Cassel has a tireless work ethic. He's been a consumate professional, but he'll need to find his killer instinct for Kansas City to claw back on top of their division.

Kansas City is just playing as bunch of individuals and not as a team. They clearly need to get on the same sheet of music. The defense left a lot to be desired, giving up far too many yards both on the ground and in the air. The offense can't continue to settle for field goals when touchdowns are badly needed. They'll need to eliminate mental errors to give themselves a real chance to win.

As for Denver, they just need to keep up their momentum heading into next week. Kansas City just couldn't capitalize on their opportunities. They'll need to be better if they want to be playing in January. You could feel the electricity in the stadium from kickoff to the final whistle. It was a game for the ages.
