Apparently he doesn't know how to fun a defense either

He micromanages and meddles BECAUSE of the Quin situation. He was very hands-off before that.

But yes, I have heard the same thing. Coaches do not love the idea of working for Alden. Too many handcuffs.

That's what I meant -

So - if I think about it - if Haith tanks, don't you basically HAVE to fire Alden?

He would have bothced TWO head basketball coaching hires, with a third being marginal (Anderson).

Most AD's don't get the change to hire their THIRD basketball coach, much les their FOURTH.

I think Alden has a job at Missouri for as long as he wants it.

Best bet would be for him to get a job in the NCAA office. That seems to be his end-goal.

His success in other areas - fundraising, football, non-revenue sports - probably earns him another pass at a basketball coach. Especially since his last two hires took Missouri to an Elite 8 and stabilized the program and also won a coach of the year award.

Alden has a lot of capital after the SEC East title. Had we won seven games this year, then his seat might be getting somewhat warm. I have no faith in his ability to hire a good basketball coach. The Anderson hire was not a disaster, but it wasn't a good one either. Haith is shaping up to be the worst of the bunch--not many are actually surprised by that.

My opinion of Alden would actually improve if he'd just shitcan Haith right now. I don't want to give him any more of an opportunity to crater the program.

I would agree.

Unfortunately, my impression of Alden is that he's basically a coward, with little to no common sense but also has an inflated sense of self importance.

He's all over a piddley issue such as the Antler's behavior, but then is "unavailable for comment" when ESPN runs a piece about a rape coverup within the athletic department.

To me, that's a complete misplacement of priorities and essentially makes me think he's a giant p#ssy.

You've hit on a lot of the problems with Alden. He just basically chooses wrong at almost all times.

Way too obsessed with being "classy."

Well, he's perfect for an NCAA position then.

Is Alden at all handcuffed by someone with or associated with ($$$) the program, specifically basketball? After the Quin days and Ricky Clemons, it seems like they are way too concerned about being perfect in a sport that has A TON of shady elements surrounding it.

Alden is going to jack this up. Except to awesome coaches, he's a hell of a salesman. I hope he's enjoying all the coverage KU's getting right now, he'll never get there in basketball... I'll bet he's counting the hours until football starts...
