Looking for a good juicer

Anybody here use juicers? I've become interested in them as of late as a way to jump start getting back to being healthy.

I get home from work generally in the middle of the night, and catch an infomercial on a juicer that is compact and can pulverize anything you put in it, but I didn't catch the name of the product. Anyone know the name of this thing, or use one they really like?

This. I have a Vitamix. I think it was a waste of money. It jams up too often and doesn't handle certain things real well. Personally, if I were to do it again, I'd get the Ninja Pro or whatever. I think the sharp blades would make a huge difference. I think you can make digg with it too, something I'd like to do.

Thinking about it, anyone want to buy a Vitamix?

If it's jamming, you're doing something wrong. Sharp blades won't make a difference unless you're trying to use it as a food processor. As a blender at the high RPMs either machine is running, you don't need sharp blades. The VM is the better blender. Now, is it $200 or $300 better, that's debatable.

Cut stuff up, put it in, blend. Stops blending, turn off, slowly ramp back up. Constantly. Carrots give it hell.

I do prefer the blender to the juicer. Juicy requires HUGE amounts of produce. That would be extremely expensive. Then again, I'm not altogether sure those who juice, do so to replace their regular diet, our to supplement it.

If you're only having a juice a day, it might be alright financially, but anymore would be too expensive for me.

As for the blender, getting all the fiber is certainly a plus, and the produce goes a lot further, so it is cheaper, and a viable option for a full on smoothie diet.

Omega Juicers are amazing...but I hate cleaning any juicer and they remove all the fiber.

Just get a Vitamix and blend it into a smoothie with Ice.

I have both and I almost never use the Omega anymore.

I think I may get there over time, but not right now. And it seems as though it's Vitamix or nothing, so I'll have to make sure this is something I'm willing to do long term if I'm going to drop that kind of coin...

Brevile juicers are expensive but worth their value. Especially if you can't stand lumps of fiber in your juice like me.

This is a good call. I didn't get one until I'd beem doing a smoothie for breakfast almost every day for a year or more.

I've only got about 200 grams of fruit, 30 or so grams of spinach, and a couple teaspoons of flax seeds.

I use the pineapple because citrus is especially effective at cutting the flavor of the greens, and I go for the spinach because it's pretty mild to begin with.

EDIT: And how does the Ninja do with the blackberries? Do you still have seeds?
Yes, I meant of each. I may start rotating them from day to day instead of all of it each day.

And yeah, the blackberry seeds are present, but not a deal killer. However, the Ninja just refuses to chop flax/chia seeds.

That's what eventually sold me on the VM. I like the flavor of blackberry, but I absolutely loathe the seeds. The VM makes them not present. First blender I've ever had that totally destroyed the seeds.

Do you have the correct container? Vitamix has one for dry and one for wet. If you are blending fruits and vegetables in the dry you can have 'jam ups'.

I've started having smoothies for breakfast (making an effort to eat healthier). Some protein powder, spinach, frozen fruit, honey, lime juice, coconut and almond milks. Blast away on the blender of your choice. Been using the same Ninja for over 10yrs.

btw, whatever happened to NaptownChief?
