Cell phone = Junk. Need help picking a new one.
My phone is poop, so I need a new one. I haven't followed what phones are worth a shit, so I need your guys' help on which ones are good/bad.
Since I am in BFE, I am stuck with Alltel. Here is a LINK to phones I have available to me. I have had good luck with Motorola, but I refuse to buy a RAZR. I really don't like them. I am also thinking of going to a Blackberry or other smart phone, but am not sure I want to pay an additional $20 for the data service. I have used a PDA pretty extensively in the past, but now that I'm in an 8-5 job, it is more of a pain to tote around. Any insight on what kind of usage would be required to make them worth the money would be appreciated. I have no idea what type of blackberry is good. Also, since Alltel got bought out by Verizon, is there anything I should worry about there? Thanks in advance. |

My whole family has upgraded to newer Alltel phones in the past few months so I will share what we learned: I had the Razr, liked it and had no problems for 2 years. I upgraded to the Motorola Rokr which is a slider instead of a flip phone and has same basic functions as the Razr but is nicer. Bottom line for me: I am happy with it. My son got a Samsung Muse and he is not really happy with it. The Crazr phone is very nice too, similar to the Razr but a bit smaller overall AND has MP3 capabilities. My wife got an LG but I dont rem the model...she is happy with it, she also had a razr before. Other than the smart phones (blackberry pearl would be my choice) the Rokr and the Crazr were the best bets for the price. They also had a really cool looking phone called the LG Glimmer which had a touch screen and all sorts of other goodies but it was still a little pricey so I passed on it...it would have been my first choice if I didn't mind shelling out 275 bucks and waiting/hoping for my rebate. Hope this helps.

Thanks fellas. Leaning toward the blackberry. A couple of my buddies got them, and have been pretty impressed. I talked to another guy about the phone functionality of them and he said they were really good. The added bulk/size didn't affect his phone useage. Have you fellas had similar results?

I got the Blackberry Curve 8330.
I've been pretty impressed with it so far. It is very intuitive. Although I can't figure out if I can set up events in my calendar, address book, and tasks on my PC and then synch them over to the Blackberry. |

Was debating between the Touch and the iPhone (don't want to leave VZW). Hope VZW picks up the Diamond. I think that would solidify the decision to stay with VZW.
EDIT: Well, I found mine. I am a fool for qwerty keyboards, so it is the HTC Touch Pro for me. Same design as the Diamond, but with a slider keyboard. Adds to the overall thickness (obviously), but I've been using my vx6700 for a few years now and used to it. http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=49518 Last edited by unlurking; 07-22-2008 at 03:41 AM.. I have a blackberry and love it. Plugging into my laptop and using it for a high speed connection makes it even better.

Now that I also am in BFE, I had to go to Alltel too. Had to get rid of my Treo, which I liked.
Now I have the Moto Q, which crashes constantly it seems. The interface is not nearly as user friendly either.

Sprint is CDMA but you can't bounce phones off of that like you can GSM providers. Sprint phones only work with Sprint, Verizon with Verizon, etc.

On a side note, I moved last weekend and haven't had new service installed in my apartment. I have my blackberry plugged into my laptop and have had internet service since I moved in. It's not a bad feature to have if you own a laptop. Being able to go down to the beach and work, surf (on the web, I don't live in California), etc. is a pretty cool thing to do.
