Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

what are you trying to do? Remember one of the pluses to brass and copper jacketed bullets is that they don't rust, they tarnish. Unlike rusting tarnishing actually protects the metal underneath it. Steel cased ammo has some risk of eventually rusting(which is why many companies coat it). But short of ammo being immersed in water for a long time it's not likely to go bad in a very very very long time. You could use anything from plastic ammo cans to metal ones etc. Or you could do something more decorative if you want.

The question is what are you looking to do?

I'm not real concerned with rust with most of my ammo being in good ammo cans. I just want something to store it in that will be hard to break into or carry away. With my ammo just sitting on the floor in cans, it'll be easy to steal in case of a break in.

Basically, it's more about security.

If you're looking for security I'd probably say metal rather than wood. A crowbar will likely make short work out of any wooden structure. Steel might bend some but they still probably won't be able to get it. As for hard to carry away....if you have enough ammo it will weight enough to make it a PITA to carry away!

But short of that look at bolting the metal cabinet into the wall/floor. I actually converted an old metal gun cabinet into ammo storage. You'd want to make shelves but you can find inexpensive ones at walmart for < 100.

whats the point of storing ammo in a wood box that someone can pick up and leave with and then break open? I kinda thought the whole point of keeping ammo and/or arms in a safe is that someone could neither break into it nor steal it.

Every once in awhile I look for a magnifier for my eotech but don't want to spend the $500 for the eotech magnifier. I never have any luck. I'm kind of thinking of trying to sell my eotech and get a Vortex sparc and the vortex magnifier. Anybody try the vortex sparc? I know the Strikefire is a damn good cheap red dot.

No way in hell do I need another gun, let alone a pistol, but I'm finding this hard to resist.

No doubt it's a great gun at a good price, but I'm old fashioned and like a manual safety instead of the trigger safety. (Although, it does have a grip saftey, like some 1911's) That's just my two cents and preference. Others prefer that set-up.

I agree.

If I hadn't spent most of my extra cash on ammo over the last couple months, I'd order the XDS right away.
