Wyclef Jean put on the worst musical performance I've ever seen. My freshman year in college he came to campus w/ the Blackeyed Peas (pre Fergie, god, they sucked ass too) and De La Soul. All he did was call up girls from the crowd and try to score with them. I don't know if he performed a single song.

he has a crack head side, I don't doubt his live turd show either - knowing some of the better electronica dj's sucked live + basically blacked out on the turntables - but some of the same ended up producing great cd's.

I love Nappy Heads by the Fugees - There isn't a song that brings back 96/7ish - quite like that one. I have some outstanding memories from that time.

I'm a homer for WJ though.

If you ever saw Keoke live - he was a walking waste-case.

his CD's he put out were seamlessly mixed w/ above average sound quality.

I'm not going to change my submission (Chuck D FTW).......

but since we're going a little more obscure with recent posts, a shout out to Common, DJ Quik, and Busta.

Jay Z is popular because of his hooks and production quality.

But again, define "best rapper"......is it the pure ability to spit out lyrics? or are you judging on the entire song, production quality, etc.?

That's a funny story about wyclef. I love rap, but I dont think I'd ever pay to see a rap artist or group live.

The only exception might be beastie boys - and that's because of Mixmaster Mike.

yes - I loved most of his albums - dude has like 15ish albums out - I liked a dozen of them. So yes - plus he made a load of money off of Caterpillar back around 96.

Yep Keoki......and back in the day, I did some rave gigs in so-cal at some of the same events where he was on the bill.

He was known to be a mess, but I think he went clean eventually.

Ego Trip was an excellent CD (the remixes of ego trip were actually quite good).

Watch the movie Party Monster with Macauly Culkin.......Keoki (played by an actor, not the real Keoki), has a pretty big role in it. Tells the whole story of Disco 2000 in NY, the subway parties, etc.

Culkin was creepy as hell in it.

If anyone of you knew rap, somebody should have mentioned Brotha Lynch Hung by now. Disgraceful.
