We have frosted glass with an aluminum frame. Though, it has to go with a certain kind of architecture.
The bonus is, the garage is BRIGHTER with the door down. When the sun is on that side of the garage, the panels glow and throw light all over the garage. But if you're looking for a solid door, I'd say aluminum. Steel is probably galvanized or powdercoated, so probably as durable. But regardless of material, I'd say the first thing you should go with is the look you want. What type of architecture is your home? or, what type of look are you trying to achieve. Then go with materials from there. Throw up a pic and we'll discuss. |

I'd buy high end natural wood doors, but they're high maintenance. I'd buy well insulated metal for low maintenance options.

Wood looks nice and sounds nice, but does not wear well. If you get an insulated metal door they are usually of high quality and will last a really long time.
