Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Re: scopes for Mosins and so on - Some Rooski & E. Bloc rifles you can mount a scope on top, same as everyone else - some of 'em have 'side mounts'. Long story short, figure out how to mount a scope on the rifle in question, find a mount that will work then see what scope will fit. It'll save you grief. I have a E. Block 4x & sidemount rig for my stock Saiga. Looks odd, works fine.

I bought a 10 pack of Palmetto stripped lowers for 500.

Best deal ever. Especially since I paid 200 each 3 months after the elementary school shooting.

I'm still trying to figure out which direction to go there. I was going to buy a brass stacker and hang a scope on that, but I read some bad reviews. I'm trying to avoid the bent bolt, but if I have to go that rount, I will. As far as the scope, reviews on the NC star are all over the board, so I may have to step up there. What I don't want to get caught doing is hanging a $400-$600 scope on a $100 Mosin.

That IS a good deal re: lowers

Re: good $100 scopes. Look at some of the Japanese brands that moved their factories to the Philippines - like Simmons. I've had good luck with 'em.

ETA - For $109 everyday (on sale pretty often) this is a good 'shoot at the range a lot' scope. It'll have some 'fuzzy' at high power around the edges...so I keep mine set about halfway most of the time, then I shut up and shoot.

IIRC the snipers w/the Mosins used 'side mount' 4x scopes - here's a pretty good 4x for the money just in case you're interested - and if you're willing to shop around you can find 'em for half price used, they've been around a long time and the old ones are fine by me.

A little more - I never scoped any of my Mosins - when I bought 'em I could see mo' bettah than I see now or just didn't care about shooting past 50 yards and making tin cans explode. I have a side mount rig that I use on the Saiga, but you might think about 'scout' mounting stuff if the side mount thing won't work w/your new stock.

You may want to look into this stuff for your 'slicked up' Mosin - 'scout' scopes w/long eye relief would be another way to go.

http://www.preciseshooter.com/blog/M...iperPart6.aspx

Here's a lot of stuff made for Mosins - the old 3.5 'sniper' scope from WWII included and original scope mounts galore

All I care about is making a gopher explode at 100-150 Yards. With the ammo as dirt cheap as it is, that's what I'm building this one for. My 300 untra mag does a great job, but not at that price.

Let's see what your new stock leaves us to work with and then look over some of the options - that 'side mount/3.5x scope from WWII' worked for the folks who shot Nazis. Anything that shot a lot of Nazis is aces with me.

Here is a vid on the 91/30 PU Scope kits. IMO it;s the only way to glass a Mosin.
Scout-rifle is a nice way of saying.. That pistol scope looks f-ing stupid on your rifle & that mess is the last thing I would take out, if I was scouting for the enemy Ground hogs

I have 4 Simmons Aetec's, I use on my Yote rigs. The best Simmons were built in the Phillipines. You get a real appreciation for just how good they are in low light, Midnight, full moon, fresh snow, one of the 4 Aetecs will be out hunting yotes in the dark.
You can still find them on Ebay for around a 100 bucks. just make sure the add or pics say made in the Phillipines

Has anyone ever used aluminum zinc-coated .223? Specifically Colt or MFS? Or maybe they're steel cases, but zinc coated.
