how the heck do those patches work anyway? they got a born on/expiration date on them or something?

saw on the news those patches where to include bar codes for scanning in the future. kind of like a dog with a microchip. they scan it to make sure it's somebodys dog or not and if it's up to date on shots.

or like a scanner at the local auto repair like you hook it up to the buick and one of the 02 sensors goes out
