Life I ****ing hate cigarettes - Page 4

My mom calls me about a week ago and pretty much goes off on me because she hasn't seen my kids since March. I tried to explain to her like I have a hundred times before that we dont come around much because I can't stand her cigarette smoke infested house. She acts like Im crazy and honestly believes its not that harmful. She lives in a small two bedroom house, refuses to open the windows, and the smoke is so thick you can see clouds of it all over the house. If I ask her to air it out before we come and not smoke while we're there she pulls the old "when you pay my rent I'll stop smoking" card.

As a kid growing up I had a lot of health problems that pretty much ended about a year after I moved out on my own. I remember being embarrassed at church because my clothes smelled like I had just walked out of a bar all the time. My friends used to give me shit about it too and nobody ever wanted to come over because of it...that's how bad it was/is.

So feeling bad I took the kids today and stayed for an hour (couldn't handle anymore). Now I have the worst migraine Ive ever had and I can still taste the shit in the back of my throat. I love my mom to death, and my kids love their grandma but I don't know what else to do. How do you convince a 72 year old woman set in her ways and that's been smoking since she was a teenager the shit is toxic to us? I dont want to miss out on her last years, and I dont want her to miss her grand kids growing up but I also cant handle her disgusting habit.

Tragic. My wifes mom is the same way. She smokes in her house, smokes in her car. Its just ridiculous.

They came back from there two weekends ago, and my son came by me, and I sniffed his hair, and all it was, was cig smoke.

My mom died last year from Pancreatic Cancer which the Docs told me was tied directly to the fact that she smoked for 20 years.

Its an awful smelly dangerous habit, that I hate forcing my son to be around especially considering that when he was a week old, we had to take him to get tested for Cystic Fibrosis.

That's enough of a scare, (he came back negative) to make you understand how precious life can be.

I hear you, MTG. I used to work in a home-health agency where I would visit people in their homes. We had a woman and her husband who were both chain smokers. You could smell the apartment way down the hall. The walls were caked in residue, and after the visit (which I always made at the end of the day), I would have to wash my clothes and take a shower and STILL smelled it. Honest truth, she was on oxygen and despite our repeated warnings, she lit herself on fire 3 times. The 3rd was the end of her, but she just wouldn't stop.

Dude, you are responsible for the health and well-being of your kids. You cannot compromise on that. If she really wanted to spend more time with the kids, she could:

1. Take a home visit from the HAZMAT teams and smoke outside.
2. Take a Febreze shower and leave the house.

That's her choice, not yours.

Smells like bullshit to me. Doctors love to blame everything on smoking.

The car deal pisses me off. I buy a new car when I am with my first wife. I told her do not smoke in this car. But you can guess what I caught her doing, and I smoke myself.
