So, what are our chances of winning the division?

Did you see that juggernaut out there?

That Denver team is way better than last year's version. Manning is better. Their receivers are better. Without three of their most important defenders from last season, the Donkey defense turned Joe Flacco into a shit-eating rape monkey.

That team is a serious Super Bowl contender.

What are we?

It just exposes the inadequacy of your OP.

Your OP was about this season. And everybody and their uncle believes AS gives you a better chance this season than Geno and EJ. Edit: If you think Geno/EJ is the second coming of Kaep or Russel Wilson, then congratulations, you're telling us all to suspend judgment until we truly find out if lightning will strike twice.

All serious odds are: it won't.

Again, if your argument is that the Chiefs don't value the position properly, talking about our odds to win shit this season should not be part of that argument.

It's not just about this season.

It appears as if Peyton Manning is going to own this division for not just this year, but probably next season and it's a good bet a third season.

He's not close to done.

And as a Patriots fan I can tell you with 9 years of experience (since the 2004 SB) that having an average D, no running game, and an amazing QB and receiver set doesn't mean a whole lot. Of course the Broncos will probably win the division unless Manning goes down, just as the Patriots will do the same. But without a D and a running game it won't translate into a SB win. If the Chiefs' D is better than the Broncos' D then, if they meet in a playoff game, all bets are off. The way you beat a QB like Manning or Brady is to pound them, and when you have the ball you eat the clock with the ground game.

I honestly think our defense will be worse than we think. I'm not saying they're going to be horrible, but those that think we're going to be a TOP 5-10 defense will be surprised.

If our offense can't convert timely 3rd downs, the defense will be even worse.

Yes, that's really what I was getting at. I'm not saying the Chiefs will challenge Denver for the division title, but that the Broncos are mortal.

I think the Bengals and Texans match up very well against Denver. If the Broncos go down in the playoffs, it'll be at the hands of Cinci or Houston I reckon.

So I take it that you're comfortable admitting you are taking the wrong angle on the issue in the OP.

Clay in OP: The Broncos value the QB position properly, and the Chiefs don't. Just look at our odds this season!

Direckshun: Alex Smith, for all his faults, gives us the best chance to win this season.

Clay: Yeah, but what about next season?

Did you actually see Manning last night? Absolutely no signs of slowing down. He's gonna dominate for at least 2 more seasons, and probably more.

I don't disagree, necessarily. I said I agreed with the facts of the OP -- it's when Clay tries to arrange them into a coherent argument that he runs into trouble.

Manning is like a Top 5 QB in the history of the goddamn league. The Chiefs can draft 20 QBs in the first round in a row, chances are none of them will be as good as Manning.

So -- how Manning being amazing has any reflection on what the Chiefs are trying to do is beyond me.

This is a pretty reckless use of the word indisputable. I dispute it. I'm fairly sure you'll find a number of other people that will gladly dispute it as well.

We haven't even played a game yet - how is he the best option?

Because all serious odds are he will give us a better chance of winning the division in 2013 than Kevin Kolb, Matt Flynn, Carson Palmer, Geno Smith, and EJ Manual.

Unless I'm forgetting somebody, those were our options this offseason, were they not?

I'd like to address this, if I may: We brought a cassel to a quarterback fight.

As an aside on a completely different note, **** peyton manning - I cannot stress this enough.
