Superman/Batman movie coming in 2015

After decades of fighting evil solo, Batman and Superman will finally be teaming up on the big screen, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter.

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder will direct the tentpole with Henry Cavill returning as Superman. It is unclear who will play Batman in the new film. A release date of 2015 has been set, with a Flash movie appearing in 2016 and a Justice League movie in 2017.

Snyder's Man of Steel, which rebooted the Superman franchise, has grossed north of $600 million worldwide since it hit theaters this June.

Warner Bros. is about to bring together two of its most iconic heroes: Superman and Batman will unite in a new film, the follow-up to “Man of Steel,” set for release in 2015.

According to two sources with knowledge of the movie, Warner Bros. intends to announce the news at its Comic-Con International panel Saturday morning. Said a Warner Bros. spokesperson, “We don’t comment on rumors regarding these properties.”

“Man of Steel” director Zack Snyder is expected to reunite with screenwriter David S. Goyer and star Henry Cavill for the new film. It’s unlikely Christian Bale will step back into the bat suit, as the actor has indicated publicly that he has moved on from his days as Bruce Wayne.

“Man of Steel” producer and “Dark Knight” trilogy director Christopher Nolan is expected by some to produce the project, but the exact nature of his involvement is unclear.

The move marks the culmination of years of effort on the part of Warner Bros. and DC Comics to bring their superheroes together in a similar fashion to their primary competitor Marvel, which successfully combined its superheroes into a $1.5-billion box-office hit with “The Avengers.”

In the comic world, the two heroes are teaming up in a new series, “Batman/Superman,” by writer Greg Pak and artist Jae Lee.

What didn't you like about it? If you say the end..can you still contrast the two? Because when I made a statement about the change at the end I couldn't actually remember how the book ended.

I liked the Watchmen movie and thought the ending was an improvement over the graphic novel, but ultimately the problem with it was that it was released at least a decade too soon.

The graphic novel is considered a classic because it deconstructed over half a century of material and gave the industry a fresh look at how to approach the subject.

But in 2009 we hadn't even seen an ensemble superhero movie yet, so what was the movie deconstructing? Joel Schumacher's Batman? I think this is why it felt flat. Sure, comic book nerds recognized the tropes it was playing with, but regular movie goers couldn't see any depth to it. It was deconstructing a movie genre was still being constructed.

In another decade -- after at least two Avengers movies and a JLU movie -- a Watchmen type movie will resonate more with the general public. The last one was just made *way* too early.

Yeah they're either A. Going to tell everyone's story in one 2.5 hour movie or they are going to do what Hollywood does and B. Toss a bunch of characters into the movie and rush the time and care a project like this should warrant. You have to make a movie that the comic book fans who know the backstory, and the people who don't know anything about the character can appreciate to maximize your profits. If you assume people know these characters and you don't need to give proper time and backstory to them then you're going to have a bunch of critics and average joes and janes shrugging their shoulders like you had with Watchmen. If you just throw a bunch of shit at the wall and see what sticks then you'll piss off the source material and you'll become Batman and Robin. It's a fine line, but it feels like they're rushing it. The one thing Man of Steel had going for it was how intricately they told the backstory of Krypton. Everyone knows Batman but skimping on Wonder Woman would do a female heroine of great popularity a major disservice.

Batman, Supes and Wonder Woman do NOT... no kidding, I cant wait for the trailers, its going to be so bad you will puke, those are stand alone characters, mixing them together will be a joke.

Might as well call Adam West out of retirement.

The various Justice League incarnations on Cartoon Network were the best comic-based animated series ever done, so they can work as a group. Of course that's no guarantee it'll be the same in Hollywood. It's a miracle the avengers was a success.

I've been enjoying the Batman 75 Celebration short clips depicting the various styles of his look as well as illustrated in the more popular cartoon series runs. Only 2 shorts have been released so far .

.. And pretty much every DC Animated flick featuring the a Justice League is pretty good.

That's what DC does well - TV, and animated direct-to-video movies. They should stick to it, because with the exception of Nolan's Batman series, every superhero movie they've churned out since the Clinton administration has been utter crap.
