2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

I think its pretty simple really, how they can. We can get an extra year of service out of him.

You want to see Frenchy go from being a "great teammate" to an absolute pain in the ass? This will do it, and we'll be begging Dayton to release his son, whom the organization owes 6.5 to this year and (I believe) 7.5 next year. Great signing.

Yost is showing enough managerial flaws to make me question whether he can be the guy when (and if) this team actually gets things turned around. Pinch running for Butler, as I noted in the game thread last night, was so ****ing stupid as to defy any semblance of logic or reason.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a situation similar to what happened to Yost in Milwaukee. Fired when he couldn't seem to get the team over the hump into the playoffs. IF and that's a big IF, the Royals can put themselves in an actual playoff race

We need our talent in waves in order to take advantage of the mass and economy of force principles. The goal is to accumulate as much developed talent for a window, then bring up the next wave as that talent can no longer be retained. Holding off Myers for the next wave could be difficult, however.

I know we are having a bit of a rough season so far, especially after these past three losses, but what I love about this team more than any recent ones is that it is full of our own players from our system. The vast majority are guys we know and are familiar with, and get this, are even guys we can look forward to seeing for more than one or two seasons. We don't have guys like Bloomquist, CoCo Crisp, Juan Gonzalez, etc. These are legitimate big league players who can expect to be desired by the team for a long time, instead of a bunch of re-treads just filling up space. Even our bullpen is maintaining some consistency. I love watching these guys play and develop and I cannot wait until they start winning consistently.

So, 39 games into our season and we're 6.5 games back from Cleveland. More importantly though, we are 2.5 games back from Detroit. All of this despite having nine players on the DL, which includes:
1) Our Closer who needs TJ Surgery
2) One of our top pitching prospects, who needs TJ Surgery
3) Our awesome catcher, who will return this year
4) Our CF prospect

Not only that, but Hosmer has hit a statistical slump where he is just belting the ball right at people. Frenchy and Gordon seem to have regressed offensively. Hochevar still can't seem to keep the wheels from falling off.

Now, we have had some favorable bounces, including the performance of Quintero and Pena. Moose and Escobar have really broken out and Dyson is performing well in his role. Irving Falu has been a pleasant surprise. Even Betancourt contributed offensively.

Our starting pitching is clearly abysmal, but not as bad as anticipated. Our youngsters in the pen have held up remarkably well and some have even flashed greatness.

It looks like we are protecting Moose big time. Side note - why does Dyson bat left and throw right?

I had a friend who bat right and threw left.

Maybe Dyson was a switch hitter and is just better batting lefty.

If Hos and co. get their shit in order. Then Hoch gets his head out of his ass, then get guys back from the DL, we'll win this divison.

I like where we sit right now considering they haven't played their best ball yet. If the bats get going and the pitching can keep it close, the Royals definitely will be in the race longer this year. Hopefully in August and September when it counts

Not sure I don't switch Gio and Dyson. Dyson gets on base and score the majority of the time he does.
