Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Not sure about Zinc. I know they used to coat steel cartridges with lacquer & it will gum up the chamber on any rifle. if not cleaned properly.
Never heard of any cartridge being made out of aluminum. Not saying it aint so, just never heard of it???

dirty, but should run fine in most auto's

Yeah, I think its steel cases coated with zinc. Its *supposed* to feed smoother than the lacquer coated cases and not gum things up.

Needs a stripped Lower Reciever and mags right? Is it a decent price for a first build gun?

Not zinc coated but CCI used to sell straight al case ammo back in the 70's. Haven't seen any for a long time. It couldn't be reloaded.

ps; Just to clarify my post the CCI ammo I mentioned wasn't for 223(my bad) the ammo I purchased was for 38 spec and 357 it was about 30% cheaper than std cased ammo and looked like a hell of a buy. Turns out it wasn't.

JSE uppers like that normally go for $425.

The kit you listed included the buffer tube, spring, buffer, buttstock and a LPK that usually end up costing an extra 50-75.

It's a decent deal. Add it to a stripped lower and you have a $500-600 AR.

I can't speak to JSE quality, though. I have no experience with them.

As it sits, it's not the style of AR I like to look at, but if it pleases your eye you're only looking at a few more bucks to have an AR up and going.

Something I recently learned is that "mil spec diameter" can often mean the tube has machine cut threads on a mil spec diameter tube. A true mil spec tube has rolled threads and theoretically should be stronger than a "mil spec diameter" or the fatter "commercial spec" tubes because of the depth of the cut to make the threads. The fact they don't mention what material it's made out of tends to mean it's the softer metal as well. This probably doesn't really matter for most guns as you're not clubbing someone over the head with them, but I found the slight quality difference interesting.
