What a football weekend

Being from the state of Missouri and cheering for the Chiefs, Tigers and Royals, I don't get too many weekends of absolute sports bliss. ... but when they do come, as they did this weekend, there's really nothing better.

Start the weekend with Mizzou's victory against Colorado - closer than I liked, but the Tigers are 5-0 for the second time in my lifetime and the first time I can remember. This weekend's game against Texas Tech should be pretty telling, but at this point, it looks like kU and Mizzou are the two best teams in the Big 12 North. Shocking.

Follow that with my first trip to Arrowhead and a completely dominant win by the Chiefs on Sunday, paired with the Royals coming back from a big early deficit to knock off the Tigers and prevent them from winning the division, and things are looking great.

Thoughts on my first game: Arrowhead is awesome. The pro football experience is a lot different from college, and it's nice not to get funny looks when you stand up and go nuts.

Is the Chiefs' defense really this good? Really?

Is there anything worse than a young QB in Arrowhead?

Am I still dreaming?

I agree completely. My only real worry was that, outside the red zone, Mizzou's defense got shredded. I'm hoping that was just a one-game type of thing but, like you said, the Texas Tech game should be very telling.

KU surprised the heck out of me the way they came back. Just reminds me that maybe the Jayhawks aren't quite the automatic W that some teams have counted on in past years.

One other team worth watching in the Big 12 North, however. There's still a reasonable argument that Iowa State has the best QB/RB combination in the north, and you can bet they'll end up spoiling somebody's plans (like KU spoiled their hopes for winning the north last year).

I love this time of year!

If they play another team with a QB that mobile, expect similar results. I'm actually a lot more worried about A&M than I am about Tech; MU's D is geared towards pressuring the passer and defending the pass. McGee's ability to run the option could be tough on Mizzou's defense, but Ziggy Hood, the Tigers' best D-lineman, also will be back by that game (hopefully), and that should help.

Congrats to your Tigers, Duncan. And it's nice to actually see a MU fan with a little common sense. Most MU fans said they wanted Nebraska to lose because they didn't see KU as a threat.

Congrats to exposing the Huskers - and especially that vaunted defense - for the overrated pieces of crap they are.

Looking forward to the game in Columbia...

I felt the same way. Even better, my son's high school football won all 3 games, freshman, varsity and junior varsity. on the JV game, my son had deciding score on int return for TD to help win the game 22 - 20 and he had a TD saving tackle in which they fumbled on the next play that we recovered...
